00:00So, what can people expect from this Highland Games?
00:04A really good day out is the one thing for a start
00:07and all the normal events for Highland Games will be on show on the day
00:13and we're hoping to have a good crowd of spectators
00:18and a large number of athletes.
00:21And what's your favourite part of the day, Glynnis?
00:23I just love the whole day.
00:25I like the fact that it's a day out for the whole family.
00:29There are lots of things for people to do, lots of highlights this year.
00:33One thing I'm really looking forward to is the ferret racing.
00:37Our event manager, Kim Reit, has organised a fabulous day for everyone
00:42so, yeah, I'm quite excited about the day.
00:45And how long have you been involved in it?
00:4823 years, I think.
00:50Something like that.
00:51I think it's actually more than that.
00:52Is it more than that? I can't remember, to be quite honest.
00:54A long time.
00:55A long time.
00:57It was a job that came with the Vice Chair of Education on the Inverness Area Committee.
01:05That's right. Angus is a former councillor.
01:07And at the end of the time, when I finished, I went to David and said,
01:12that's me finished, and he said, no, just leave where you are.
01:15I've been there ever since.
01:17It's good that we still have one in Inverness
01:19because I know a lot of areas outside of Inverness have lost the Highland Games
01:23due to maybe lack of volunteers or people not being able to take it on.
01:26So, what do you think?
01:28Is it having a good team behind it that allows it to continue?
01:31Yes, but the volunteers are still going to be a problem
01:35because a lot of them are similar age to me.
01:40And there's not the younger ones coming in,
01:43especially as people to officiate.
01:50But we do our best and we get there in the end.
01:53It'll be a great day.
01:55Yes, it'll be a good day, an excellent day.
01:57So, is there anyone you would like to thank?
01:59I mean, Angus has just said, you know, the Highland Games,
02:02Inverness Highland Games relies a lot on volunteers
02:05and particularly the Highland Games Committee
02:07and indeed councillors on the working group.
02:10However, we wouldn't be able to do any event in Inverness
02:13if it wasn't that Inverness has a really good Common Good Fund
02:17and this event has always been supported by Inverness Common Good Fund.
02:21I mean, it's really expensive to put on the Inverness Highland Games
02:25and I'm sure it's the same for every Highland Games.
02:28Yes, all the games are having the same problems.
02:30All the games, there's Nethi, Glen Urquhart, you know,
02:34it's the funding that's always the problem
02:36and I think it's a real shame that, for example,
02:40if we weren't able to afford to do the Inverness Highland Games,
02:44Highland Games is all about the Highland, you know,
02:47so, yeah, I'm pleased that we can still afford to do it
02:51but it's thanks to the Common Good Fund.
