Is Angel Reese worth a bet or is the award Caitlin Clark's to lose? We discuss on 'You Better You Bet'
Transcript
00:00For, for rookie of the year, what we had seen in the market is basically Angel Reese just
00:05bet to be kind of like a competitive second choice, you know, a month ago, 25 to one or,
00:11you know, or more, and then just price gradually dropping, gradually dropping, gradually dropping
00:15as she keeps putting up these double doubles and shines more attention on her and Caitlin
00:21Clark and their history.
00:22And this just becomes like a constant talking point every single day.
00:25And the market reflects that there's just more interest in Angel Reese potentially winning
00:29rookie of the year.
00:30So she was like four to one, five to one over the last, uh, like week or so she's plus three
00:3550.
00:36I bet him GM right now.
00:37And Caitlin Clark's still a massive, I mean, it's going to be one of the two of them.
00:40So we already know that.
00:41So because one's plus three 50, it's, you know, Kayla Clark's going to be minus 500
00:44minus 600 at the same time.
00:46And I was just really interested, like what the net, you know, there's only a few games
00:50left until they take the Olympic break.
00:52There's basically like about a week to go.
00:54I think maybe I actually think the 20th might be the last day of the games or it's the 17th,
00:58one of the two.
00:59So we basically have a week left.
01:00They take a month off to play the Olympics.
01:01And I was just curious in that week, like could Angel Reese continue to build enough
01:05momentum that the whole month off became a discussion about how she should maybe win
01:11and Caitlin Clark, um, shouldn't.
01:14And today, if you were in that camp of like wanting things to be interesting, wanting
01:18something to be dramatic, wanting an underdog to have a chance to win today was not very
01:22good for you because yes, like Angel Reese did have a double double again.
01:25She had 11 and 13 and her team won.
01:27So you might be like, well, how could it possibly, like what, what could have happened?
01:32Caitlin Clark at 29, 13 assists and five steals.
01:37Her overall stat line, 29, 13, five, five, and three.
01:42I think no player in WNBA history, something like this has had a stat line like exactly
01:47like this with like assist, rebound, steals and blocks, everything combined.
01:50I mean, really like a historic day they lose.
01:52So if that's what you want to focus on, that's what you're focused on.
01:56I mean, it's going to be really tough to not just give a rookie, no matter how much everybody
01:59hates her or how much the WNBA resents what's happening, it's going to be really tough to
02:03not give it.
02:04If this, if this is what it's going to be in some of these games, first rookie to ever
02:07have a triple double.
02:08And now this, um, both, both rookies putting up really, really fun stat lines, generating
02:13a lot of good conversation.
02:14I think this was a very good day.
02:16If you like Caitlin Clark to win rookie of the year, but I don't know who would like
02:20that.
02:21Like who would lay minus 600 with 20 games left on somebody.
02:23I think if you like bets, then you want this to get more interesting.
02:27You want Angel Reese to keep getting double doubles.
02:29You want Caitlin Clark to not play well, and let's get really get the conversation machine
02:33going here so that you can come in and bet a lot of, bet a lot of money on Angel Reese
02:36at a good number.
02:37It doesn't feel like that's what happened.
02:39So anyway, if you, if you haven't followed this race very closely, I would say like a
02:43monster stat game for Caitlin Clark that I would say probably increase, despite the fact
02:47that she lost in Angel Reese one pretty dramatically in one, in a one, as much as one game can
02:52increase it dramatically, changes the perception and maybe she becomes a little more likely
02:56to win off of today's performance.
