The cargo train connecting Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, and China, known as the Asean Express, has returned to Malaysia after a 14-day trip to Chongqing, China.

The train was welcomed at its final stop at Kontena Nasional Inland Clearance Depot (KNICD) on Thursday (July 11) morning.

00:14We are here today to receive our train, the first train from Chongqing to KNICD.
00:24The train starts on June 27th, 2024.
00:31This train carries about 20 carriages with a 40-foot container per carriage.
00:38It means 20 units of 40-foot containers from Chongjin.
00:42And then it will be unloaded in Kainal CDD for use in Malaysia.
00:48The journey takes about 9 to 14 days.
00:53We hope that this is the first trip from the outbound to Malaysia.
01:02Then there will be other trips that we will carry out between both countries,
01:10Malaysia and China.
01:12This train will move from the outbound from Malaysia,
01:17from Kainal CDD to Badan Besar.
01:19And then it will transfer the locomotive from Badan Besar,
01:24using the train from Thailand SLT,
01:27and then bring it to Nongkai in Thailand.
01:30And then from Nongkai it will enter Laos in Tanah Leng.
01:34So from Laos it will change the train from Tanah Leng to China, to Chongjin.
01:40A few stations it will stop.
01:42Likewise, from Chongjin to Tanah Leng, Nongkai, Bangkok,
01:47to Badan Besar and Kainal CDD PJ.
01:51What kind of cargo will this train be?
02:00Basically, they carry sodium sulphate from China to local distribution in Malaysia.
02:11Sodium sulphate.
02:13That means the material that can be used for the production of detergents.

02:18Will it be expanded to other types of cargo?
02:21Sure, yes.
02:23It will not stick to that kind of cargo only.
02:26It will be expanded to others as well.
