Frozen Fruit & Vegetable Snacks in Japan

00:00Hey guys, welcome to another video from our food and eating in Japan playlist.
00:04As some of you guys already know, summer in Japan is really, really hot.
00:07So it's nice to have some cold options for cooling down.
00:11Frozen Mikan, so Mikan is just a citrus fruit.
00:14It's been peeled and stuck in a bag and frozen.
00:18So it's really common.
00:19Of course you can get ice cream and all the other things that aren't quite so natural,
00:24but frozen fruit and vegetables just as they are is really common in Japan, really popular.
00:31So you'll find them at shops, but you'll also find them at festivals and things like that
00:35as well.
00:36This is a 99% fruit juice frozen thing.
00:43Pretty tasty.
00:44Oh, this one, now this one's been around for a long time, cucumber on a stick.
00:49They're not frozen, but they kept it on ice.
00:51So they're cold and quite commonly at festivals, you'd be walking around and you'll see lots
00:56of different places selling them and it's by a cucumber on a stick, eat a cucumber.
01:02Really, really sweet, refreshing, tasty, pretty healthy too.
01:06It's a vegetable, isn't it?
01:08This one's not quite so common.
01:09We haven't seen this so much, but sliced up watermelon frozen on a stick.
01:15Is that a great idea?
01:19So it's sort of in line with, you know, sort of reasonably healthy snack foods are quite
01:25common in Japan, aren't they?
01:26We showed you before all sorts of rice crackers and things that we eat all year round.
01:30And then in summer, when it's really hot, we go with these frozen things.
01:33Oh, let's have a closer look at the peach.
01:35There it is.
01:37Frozen peach.
01:39And that's all it is.
01:40You tear the bag open and that's just full of cut up pieces of peach that have been frozen.
01:44Isn't that great?
01:45Oh, this one's cheating a little bit.
01:46It's on a bed of ice, but you've got the fruit on the top, real fruit on the top, sitting
01:51on ice cream.
01:52So the ice cream's cheating a bit, isn't it?
01:53These ones aren't actually frozen, they're just cold, they're chilled.
01:57And again, 100% fruit.
01:58Isn't that brilliant?
01:59It's great to have that option, isn't it?
