Beginning in the Introduction Hall, visitors connect with Vincent van Gogh through personal letters he wrote to his brother, and greatest supporter, Theo. Visitors then move into the heart of the exhibition – the Immersive Room – where Van Gogh’s paintings are freed from their frames to dominate the space and fully immerse the audience in the incredible detail of his work, awakening their imagination in a playful and dreamlike way as they are enveloped in colourful flowers, cafés and stunning landscapes, shifting and swirling across the projection-swathed walls and floor.

00:45I think it's a fabulous way for especially young kids as well to see.
00:49It's so immersive, it's just good.
00:52It's quite enlightening and it brings joy.
00:54I would say to anybody go.
00:56There's all ages, a lot of people which is good with special needs.
00:59And I think that is so important.
01:01And they were made very welcome.
01:03What I could see, there was a lot of help if they needed it.
01:07New technology, it could make things like the portraits blink or wink.
01:13There's a pipe, somebody smoking a pipe and there's tobacco lights up.
01:18And at first you're like, did that really move?
01:21Did that really blink?
01:22And then you start paying more attention.
01:25So yeah, it's all new technology.
01:27What did you think of the music it was involved in?
01:29Yeah, the music was soothing, actually it was quite calming.
01:33And then of course at the end, the music from Don McLean's Vincent
01:37which would bring a tear to a glass eye.
01:39It was good as well.
01:41Do you think the sensory value?
01:44Yes, it's really important.
01:48What's more important is for anybody with special needs,
01:52whether they're visible special needs or you just can't see them.
01:56For them to be able to come in and just be part of it all and just enjoy.

02:09I live in Glasgow.
02:11I took my son to this exhibition in Edinburgh.
02:14I think it was last year, it might even have been more than that.
02:17And he's non-verbal, autistic and it really suited him.
02:23It gave him access to art in a way that he wouldn't have.
02:27Normally if he goes into an art gallery, he'll quiz through it.
02:31But coming to an experience like this where it's immersive, it's all round him.
02:35He can take his time, he's got space.
02:38It's dark.
02:40He absolutely loved it.
02:42He was in no rush to leave.
02:44We had to go to the gift shop afterwards and he's never forgotten it.
02:47There was a young gentleman in a wheelchair.
02:50He was given all the space.
02:52There was lots for him to do.
02:54He was even taking part in the fun part.
02:56Like a photograph in the photo frames.
02:59He looked extremely happy.
03:01And he's still there looking happy.
03:04A wide variety of ages as well here today.
03:06Absolutely. Everyone.
03:08From the children, because it's the children's holidays.
03:10To old people.
03:11There's some seating so they could sit and enjoy it.
03:15People in wheelchairs.
03:17Absolutely happy.
03:18They can move around.
03:19They can be pushed around.
03:21What did you think of the exhibition itself?
03:23I haven't seen it before, but I do love Van Gogh.
03:26I've been to the museum in Amsterdam.
03:28Who doesn't love Van Gogh?
03:30The way it was put together, really lovely.
03:33I love the way they use his letters to his brother.

03:39Would you recommend people come?
03:41Most certainly.
