00:00A horrific heatwave is scorching Hungary, putting homeless people in life-threatening
00:05situations.
00:06The government issued a code red, meaning all social services must receive people to
00:11at least give them water, a bath, and let them cool down.
00:15NGOs working with the homeless are also adapting to the emergency situation.
00:19The NGOs are trying to help as few people as possible to stay on the streets as long
00:26as possible on a hot day, which is the biggest danger.
00:29So if you can, organize your services so that during the day, especially in this scorching
00:35heat, there are employees who can take care of this, or who walk the streets.
00:41The Budapest Bike Mafia volunteers make hundreds of sandwiches twice a week for people living
00:46on the streets, and are now bringing them water as well.
00:49We asked those who we met about what they could do to beat the heat.
01:17NGOs say that homeless people are more at risk in the cold winter than in the summer,
01:24but there are still people on the streets who need help.
