Can You Solve This Puzzle

00:00This is one of my favourite puzzles and I want you guys to try and figure it out.

00:24My name's Pete Furman, I'm a magician but I'm also interested in curious and unusual

00:28things, also puzzles. Hence the reason for doing this today. I hope you enjoy this one

00:33and if you do, stick around at the end because I've got a few thoughts that I want to share

00:37with you.

00:38So it comes in this nice little box and the puzzle itself is made up of 5 pieces of coloured

00:42plastic. Different shapes, different sizes but 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 pieces and they fit together

00:48to form this rectangle and the rectangle fills this black frame that you also get as part

00:53of the puzzle.

00:54Now I'm going to take all 5 of the pieces out of the box, just like this and we need

01:01the frame but we don't need the box itself. So what I'm going to do is I'll put the pieces

01:05back together forming the rectangle like this and the puzzle comes with some extra pieces.

01:13Here's one of them. Do you think it would be possible to add this extra piece into the

01:18puzzle and still make the same shape? Think about that for a moment. I'll show you how

01:24it works. You put the piece here and you move this piece around to this side. You move these

01:322 pieces around to the other side and then you move the larger piece up to meet everything

01:40and just by moving a few pieces around I'm able to come up with the same shape. Now obviously

01:45because I added this extra piece the rectangle is larger than it was originally. However,

01:51here's the really strange thing. The black frame still fits perfectly around the puzzle.

01:57All of the pieces still fit inside. Now look, I've got another extra piece. I'm going to

02:05try and integrate this extra piece into the puzzle. So I'll put it there, I'll move this

02:11piece around to there and then move the larger piece down and again I've made the same shape

02:17but because we added another piece it's larger again as a whole. But weirdly the frame still

02:23fits perfectly as it did around 5 pieces. Now around 7 pieces all of the pieces fit

02:30inside and you let me know in the comments how does that work?
