At Big 12 media days in Las Vegas this past week, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders made plenty of headlines as he usually does. He spoke about how his wins are viewed differently than other coaches in the game, but other than speaking his mind loudly, is what Deion is doing THAT much different than your average college football head coach?

00:00I'm a Dion guy number one nobody cares if your players graduate I mean let's be honest
00:23does anybody in this room or anybody listening eight seven seven eight eight one one oh five
00:27three anybody know what stick with Oklahoma Oklahoma Texas Georgia Alabama do it did we
00:35know what their graduation rates are I mean I can't say that I know that off top have
00:40you ever cared be honest have you ever cared about the graduation rate of a college football
00:46that you told me today that you're a college football fan yes have you ever talked about
00:49graduation you've been doing radio sports radio for how long eight years at this point
00:53how many seconds have you done on graduation rates um not not a single one because that
00:58doesn't that's not even a talkable conversation and has anybody ever said to you a program
01:03director or otherwise reg we'd love to hear more talk about graduation rates and what
01:10what these coaches are doing with their players I cannot say that they have so what is Dion
01:13talking about I think that honestly Dion I think Dion does a lot of framing which I think
01:21is not he's framing all right he's not it's not unique to him to be fair right media days
01:26anytime you're in front of the media you are framing situations for yourself to put yourself
01:30in the best light whether it's contract negotiations whether it's uh expectations all these things
01:36and the idea that hey man I'm working with a different set of like it's harder to win
01:41here it's something that he's not inherently wrong about it's one of the things that I
01:45tried to caution people about once Dion got there because all the hype because Colorado
01:50is not a place where you're supposed to win and I know that that sounds insane because
01:53people are like well you can win anywhere this ain't EA college football 25 right there
01:58are things that are inherent in college football over time that have been the case geography
02:02matters investment in I mean and flat out spending matters and now you end up with NIL
02:08spending in a different level when you talk about investment into the program matters
02:12and Colorado is one of those places where you don't really have those things the place
02:16where they used to be able to get an advantage recruiting wise was you know academics take
02:21it or leave it right them Nebraska was another place like this back in the days back when
02:24you go back to maybe like the 80s 90s they were able to be like look man them straight
02:28C's we can make that work come on down absolutely we'll figure that out every program does there
02:34are certain programs that have certain standards
