00:05of cocaine and opioids concealed in soles of shoes and clothes at international airports
00:08in Lagos State while being shipped to Europe, Cyprus, United States of America, USA and
00:13United Kingdom, UK.
00:14According to news statements made available by the NDLEA spokesperson Franny Barbafemi
00:18on Sunday, the anti-drugs operatives also lost tramadol pills hidden inside coastal
00:22containers.
00:23Laffinga's warehouse in BGC area in Lekki and recovered 11,096 kilograms of illicit
00:27drugs in Ledo, Bonu, Ogun and Katsina states during raids.
00:31NDLEA's statement reads, Governing Bureaus, Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement
00:36Agency, NDLEA, have intercepted various quantities of cocaine and opioids such as tramadol, pentosucine
00:41injection, morphine sulfate, ketamine injection, among others concealed in soles of shoes,
00:46clothes and other items being shipped to the United States, United Kingdom and Cyprus.
00:51While no less than 250 grams of cocaine going to Cyprus was hidden in soles of custom-made
00:55shoes.
00:56Over 5 kilograms of opioids held in the US and UK were discovered by NDLEA officers of
01:00the Directorate of Operations and General Investigations, DOGI, in clothes and other
01:04household items meant to be shipped through some courier farms in Lagos.
01:08In the same van, a consignment of 440 grams of laud, a synthetic strain of cannabis coming
01:13from Canada to Lagos was equally intercepted by operatives in one of the logistic companies.
01:17Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives in Edo state on Wednesday, 10 July 2024 intercepted a vehicle
01:23marked Abuja GWA-273DD at Ewo Junction, Essam Central Local Government Area following credible
01:29intelligence.
01:30The luggage of one of the occupants, Aminu Abdullahi, 32, was searched and found to contain
01:35costal containers where 3,000 pills of tramadol 225 mg were buried in the costal powder.
01:42In his statement, the suspect claimed the drugs were bought in Onitsha, Anagwa State
01:46and he was taking them to Barabag area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to sell.
01:50In another operation, operatives on Thursday, 11 July raided the Ohe Forest, Aminu area
01:55of Edo and destroyed 5,429.751 kg of cannabis on 2.918 hectares of farmlands where 4 suspects,
02:02Gonde Ariye, 37, Fadi Okafor, 59, Obina Umusu, 48, and Yusuf Adamu, 27, were arrested.
02:11Similarly, 300 kg of the same substance were recovered from Guntemba Obi Camp in one West
02:15local government area when NDLEA officers raided the location on Saturday, 13 July.
02:21In Ogun State, operatives on Tuesday, 9 July recovered a total of 2,865 kg of cannabis
02:28at Afumi Ubese while the suspected owner, Uma Ubese, is currently at large.
02:32At least 2,455 kg of materials for the production of apospora, a new psychoactive substance,
02:38NPS, were recovered from a warehouse in Konduga town, Konduga local government area.
02:42Balustad on Tuesday, 9 July when NDLEA operatives in a joint operation with men of the Nigerian
02:47army raided the area.
02:49The following day, Wednesday, 10 July, operatives in Katsina State arrested a 54-year-old Sabo
02:54Sule with 47 kg cannabis in Katsina town.
02:57In Yagos, operatives on Monday, 8 July raided a warehouse in BGC, Leki where they recovered
03:02148 cartons of non-medical nitrous oxide popularly called laughing gas, 108 cartons of vast
03:08glass cylinder, 134 pieces of balloon and 109 cartons of infusion charger, among others.
03:14A female suspect, Suryat Abdul Salam was arrested in connection with the seizure.
03:18With the same zeal, commands and formations of the agency across the country continue
03:22their war against drug abuse, WADA, sensitization activities in schools, worship centers, workplaces
03:28and communities among others in the past week.
03:30These include WADA, Enlightenment Lecture for students of St. Louis Grammar School Senior,
03:35Mokola, Ibadan, Oyo State, students and staff of Infant Jesus Modern Secondary School, Oron,
03:41Akwa Ibom State, students and teachers of Ede High School, Ede, Oshun State, students
03:47of Government Day Secondary School, Kaldagari, Daula, Katsina State, and students of Rehoboth
03:52Secondary School, Okpondo Oka, Anambra State, among others.
03:56While commanding the officers and men of the DOE, Bonu, Ogun, Katsina, Legos, and FCT commands
04:03as well as those of DOGI for the arrests and seizures, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer
04:08of NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Boubamawa, retired, noting their drug supply reduction
04:13efforts balanced with WADA sensitization activities while he charged them and their compatriots
04:17across the country to maintain the current tempo.
