00:00Thousands of residents in Dalajican, Camilla City, lost their homes after a fire broke out in two barangays there.

00:08Some residents jumped into the sea to escape the fire.

00:11This is the news of Jamie Santos.

00:17From Himpapawid, the Philippine Air Force's chopper is dropping water

00:22to help the 50 trucks of the Bureau of Fire Protection to put out the fire

00:27that is striking the homes in Barangay 5 and 7, Dalajican, Cavite City.

00:32At 3 p.m. last Sunday afternoon, the fire broke out.

00:36It spread quickly to the homes because most of the homes are covered with light materials.

00:41That's why the BFP quickly put out the fourth alarm.

00:45Even though the other firefighters came from nearby cities, they also responded.

00:50Residents affected by the fire were evacuated one by one.

00:54This woman couldn't help but cry.

00:57Aside from the fact that they didn't have anything to save themselves,

01:00she was also afraid for their lives.

01:03I'm just thinking that my children and I will be safe.

01:06We were trapped for an hour before we were able to get out.

01:14How did you get out, ma'am?

01:16We were just swimming in the water.

01:18I almost drowned. We were in Bacawan for an hour.

01:22Some of the residents evacuated with what they were able to save.

01:26While others just swam to the sea when they saw the fire spreading quickly.

01:33People were trapped.

01:34They just took their belongings and threw them into the sea.

01:37That's all they did.

01:39They were trapped and the fire spread.

01:41We were able to save ourselves.

01:46We just threw our belongings and that's it.

01:49According to the mayor of Lungsod,

01:51almost 1,000 families were affected by the fire in two barangays.

01:55We will open two evacuation sites, which is the Dalahican Elementary School

01:59and here in Santa Cruz Elementary School to accommodate the 933 families affected by the fire.

02:06This will have a big effect because if the recovery of our affected families will last long,

02:12the opening of these two schools will be delayed.

02:15But the local government will be moving fast to provide assistance to the affected families.

02:22The BFP's investigation into the cause of the fire and the importance of its purpose continues.
