00:00Donald Trump has likened the process of selecting a running mate to the reality show The Apprentice
00:06and his campaign has tried to build TV-worthy suspense around potential names.
00:12As time runs out to make an announcement, there are several apparent finalists.
00:16One of them is 39-year-old Ohio Senator J.D. Vance.
00:20The former venture capitalist and best-selling author had previously identified himself as
00:25a never-Trumper, but is now one of the former president's fiercest defenders, especially
00:31amid Trump's legal proceedings.
00:33We cannot have a country where you get to prosecute your political opponents instead
00:38of persuading voters.
00:40The two men share similar views on trade and are both immigration hardliners.
00:46Another possible choice is Marco Rubio.
00:49The Florida senator had run against Trump in the 2016 primaries and publicly said he
00:54didn't want to be considered for the Trump ticket back then.
00:57However, they seem to have put aside their differences, Trump touting the 53-year-old's
01:02popularity.
01:04The son of working-class Cuban immigrants, Rubio could help Trump gain a larger share
01:09at the Latino vote.
01:12Then there's North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum.
01:15He'd run in the primaries, but after his campaign fell short, he became the first Republican
01:19contender to drop out and endorse Trump.
01:23Trump has praised Burgum's business acumen, who in 2001 sold his software startup to Microsoft
01:29for more than a billion dollars.
01:31Beyond what's considered the leading trio, there are some other names in the mix.
01:35They include Tim Scott, a senator from South Carolina who ran for president before dropping
01:40out last year, Elise Stefanik, a five-term New York congresswoman who said she'd be honored
01:45to serve in a Trump administration, and Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton, a staunch conservative
01:51and foreign policy hawk.
01:53Either way, Trump is not known for being predictable, and analysts are not ruling out a surprise.
