00:00Two weeks have passed since they started school again.
00:05In addition to the additional expenses,
00:07Meralco raised more than 2 pesos per kilowatt hour this July.
00:11We asked our online supporters,
00:14what will you do to meet the budget for the expenses?
00:17One answer is that they will first reduce the use of appliances to save on electricity.
00:22The other said that they will just pay for one while the other will use a candle as a light
00:26and will open windows so that they won't use an air conditioner.
00:29The other said that they will first clean the sink so that they won't have to use a washing machine
00:34and will just save time on using a television.
00:37And if there's no use of a refrigerator, just remove it.
00:41That's the only thing we will discard so that we can save.
00:45We will save on electric fans because it's already cold.
00:50And for TV, we will avoid it because we have a cellphone.
00:54The rate hike is not only affecting the households but also the business.
00:58Sales in Louisa's store are already low.
01:01She earns her living from Meralco's monthly bill of P5,000 to P6,000.
01:06She only has one position from their three stores before the COVID-19 pandemic.
01:11Because the electricity bill is too high.
01:15Generation Charge is the biggest contributor to the rate hike
01:18as well as the increase in transmission charge, expenses, and others.
01:21Because of that, the total electricity rate this July
01:24increased from P11.60 to P9.45 last June.
01:30Meralco said that the June billing went down
01:33because of the order of the Energy Regulatory Commission
01:35to make a four-month installment
01:37which should have been increased last June.
01:39So for the July billing, the deferred payment of P77 per kWh
01:45will be charged for the electric bill every month from June to September.
01:49We have a disclaimer as early as last month
01:54that by the start of July, you should anticipate a big increase
01:59because the price of electricity will return to the previous normal level
02:04plus the deferred cost of the electricity bill.
02:08The electricity rates depend on your consumption of electricity.
02:11If your consumption is more than 200 kWh per month,
02:15the bill will be higher.
02:17An additional P430 will be paid to the electric bill
02:20of those who consume 200 kWh per month.
02:23An additional P860 for those who consume 400 kWh per month
02:27and an additional P1,000 for those who consume 500 kWh per month.
02:31Luisa said that she will still try to get closer to the bill.
02:33Even if it's low, I will continue to do it
02:37instead of stopping it.
02:39In August, there is hope that the electricity bill will go down
02:42because the demand for electricity is expected to go down
02:44so the price of electricity might go down in the spot market.
