00:00Hello everyone, welcome to Mediantv, here is your Maghreb press review.
00:10Hydraulic stress is getting worse in Morocco as the filling rate of dams does not exceed 30%.
00:16On July 15, the Moroccan government said,
00:19the national daily reported the latest data from the General Directorate of Hydraulics
00:23which recalls that this same rate had reached 30.80% on the same date last year.
00:29Currently, the reserves of all dams are at 4.7 billion cubic meters
00:34against 4.9 billion last year, still on the same date.
00:38Today, Morocco also takes the example of the Umrbe Basin dams
00:43which struggle to reach 5%, twice less than in mid-July 2023.
00:47The daily is categorical in its columns, the balance between supply and demand remains fragile
00:52and this despite the investments in the construction of dams
00:55to increase water storage capacity and regulate water flow
01:00as well as the increased exploitation of groundwater to meet the growing demand.
01:05Hydraulic stress will therefore remain a less and less predictable problem
01:09due to climate change which can lead to an increase in the variability of rainfall,
01:14more frequent droughts and extreme weather events.
01:20The Kingdom has seen a strong growth in banking,
01:25according to the latest figures from Banque le Marib.
01:28Indeed, the Moroccan Central Bank announced the opening of 3.3 million new bank accounts in 2023
01:35representing an increase of 8.6% compared to the previous year.
01:39Among these new accounts, more than 870,000 were opened by individuals for the first time.
01:45Moreover, this new banking clientele stands out for its diversity.
01:4945% of the new account holders are women
01:52and 92% of the first-time bankers are Moroccans living in Morocco.
01:56In total, 36.3 million accounts were opened at the end of 2023
02:01with a new increase of more than 7% compared to 2022.
02:05This increase encourages and confirms the Kingdom's desire to improve its banking policy
02:12which, nevertheless, still has a long way to go
02:14in order to achieve a gender equality and a better banking of the young population.
02:21In order to develop this banking rate,
02:23the privileged savings mode in Morocco could be digitized, informs us the 360.
02:28You have already heard about DARTS, the Moroccan Tontine,
02:32this collective savings formula that brings together savings in the form of associations
02:36which creates an estimated annual flow of 40 billion dirhams,
02:39which is the equivalent of 28% of the savings collected by banks in the country.
02:43This model is now in the sights of the founder and CEO of the start-up Moneyfellows, Ahmed Ouedi,
02:49who is taking the last steps with the Moroccan authorities
02:53to implement his FinTech in the Kingdom after the success recorded in his country, Egypt,
02:58with 4.7 million users and up to 7% of this number representing people
03:03who contribute on a monthly basis.
03:05Moneyfellows would earn on service costs which would be reduced as the circles grow.
03:11The information portal adds that this device is in charge of guaranteeing
03:15the reliability and credibility of the participants for Moroccans
03:19who would be the first beneficiaries of Moneyfellows internationally.
03:25Capitaliste, on the other hand, comes back on the commitment of several Tunisian associations
03:29fighting against the slaughter of stray dogs,
03:31including the Association Ezra Petzlover,
03:34which reminds that it is possible to guarantee cohabitation in the best conditions,
03:38fight against rage and maintain the safety of citizens
03:41while avoiding the barbaric practice of slaughtering and achieve better management.
03:45This question came up at the table at the national level after the death of an imam in early July in Mehdiyya
03:51after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs as they were returning from the mosque at dawn.
03:56Other solutions to avoid their definitive elimination are sterilization, vaccination and first care
04:02before releasing them according to the Trap Neuter Release program.
04:06A demonstration is also planned by the Association in the south of Tunisia
04:10to raise awareness on this cause and encourage adoption.
04:13The Tunisian information website concludes.
04:16This is the end of this Maghreb Press Review.
04:18Thank you all for following it.
