00:11Friends.
00:12The movie starts out with a 12-year-old bee who moves into her grandmother's Margaret's
00:18apartment in New York while her father waits for heart surgery in the same hospital where
00:23her mother died of cancer years earlier.
00:26She chafes against his playful antics, insisting she can handle the situation with maturity.
00:34One night, Bee goes out to buy a charger for her mother's old camcorder and sees an unfamiliar
00:39creature following it back to her grandmother's building.
00:43The next day, she sees the creature again, accompanied by a man.
00:48Bee follows them to a nearby house where the man, Cal, retrieves a large furry purple creature
00:54named Blue.
00:55She also meets the other creature, a butterfly-like being named Blossom, and faints.
01:01She awakens in Cal's apartment where she learns that he has been working with imaginary
01:06friends, nicknamed Ifs, to place them with new children as their original children have
01:12grown up and forgotten them.
01:13Initially reluctant, Bee eventually decides to help Cal.
01:17The next day, Cal takes Bee to Memory Lane Retirement Home, a retirement community for
01:23Ifs housed underneath a swing in Coney Island.
01:28There he introduces Bee to Louis, an elderly teddy bear who is head of the facility.
01:33He inspires Bee to use her imagination to redesign the facility, much to the chagrin
01:38of Cal.
01:40Bee tries to match one of the Ifs with Benjamin, a young patient at the hospital.
01:44She, Cal, and Louis audition the Ifs, but he is unable to see any of them.
01:49Feeling unmotivated, Bee talks with Louis on the Coney Island pier.
01:53He gives her an idea that maybe Ifs do not need new kids, but rather to reunite with
01:58their old ones.
02:00Talking with her grandmother, she sees a picture of her as a young dancer and recognizes Blossom
02:05in the background of the picture.
02:07Realizing Blossom was her grandmother's If, Bee decides to test Louis' idea.
02:12Playing one of her grandmother's records inspires Margaret to dance, and she remembers
02:16Blossom, instilling Bee with hope.
02:19Following a tip, Bee, Cal, and Blue find Blue's original kid, Jeremy, now a grown-up
02:25man trying to launch a business, by eating a fresh croissant in front of Jeremy.
02:30Bee reminds him of his childhood home above his parents' bakery.
02:35Jeremy remembers Blue, enough for Blue to give Jeremy the confidence he needs for a
02:40business presentation.
02:42That evening, Bee arrives at Margaret's to find her hastily preparing for a return
02:47to the hospital because there's been a complication with her father's treatment.
02:51Bee rushes upstairs to Cal, who comforts her.
02:54When Bee says she does not want to say goodbye to her dad, Cal advises her to tell him a
02:58story instead.
02:59At the hospital, a nurse reassures Bee that her father will be alright.
03:04She tells him a story about realizing she was pushing herself to act like a grown-up
03:08when she's just a child who still needs her father.
03:11He wakes up, and they hug each other.
03:14When Bee goes outside his room, she sees that all of the ifs are gone.
03:19Bee goes upstairs to thank Cal, but no one answers his door.
03:23The landlady shows Bee that the door opens into an old storage room.
03:27After her dad is released from the hospital, he and Bee pack up to go home.
03:31Bee finds an old picture she painted of herself, her parents, and a clown named Calvin.
03:37She suddenly realizes that Cal is her own if, forgotten after the death of her mother.
03:43She thanks him for helping her and tells him she'll always need him.
03:47This allows Bee to see Cal and the ifs again, and they reunite.
03:50After Bee and her father drive off, Margaret asks Blossom if the two of them should go
03:55inside, causing Blossom to realize Margaret can see her.
04:00Sometime later, Cal begins reuniting the ifs with their original kids, now grown-up.
04:05Benjamin meets his if, a cartoonish dragon with glasses.
04:09Bee and her father return home, where he trips over Keith, his invisible imaginary
04:14friend.
04:15And, that takes us out of the movie.
