Minnesota's Push for Legalization Stalls in 2024 Session

00:00Let's talk about Minnesota now because this is a little bit more complex.
00:08It seemed like there was momentum and then there were a group of legislators
00:13that were prepared to and successfully spiked it for the 2024 calendar year.
00:20So their session is their congressional session is over for the year.
00:23And it looks like we'll have to come back in 2025 in order to try this again.
00:28Yeah, I'm working up a story right now.
00:29Talking to different stakeholders and politicians that have been leading this charge
00:35the past couple of years, kind of a similar situation as Missouri,
00:38that there's been a lot of hope, a lot of work toward the end goal of legalization,
00:43but it's just fallen short repeatedly year after year.
00:47And this year we came into it saying,
00:50wow, this is the one state that can probably get it done at this session.
00:55Well, sure enough, as you know, politics is not simple.
00:59I think we've learned that in the past couple of years or decades.
01:05But yeah, well, that too.
01:09Yeah, it looked almost like a shoe in to get things going and pass,
01:15but it just kind of everything just kind of fell apart.
01:19One thing happened.
01:20Domino's kept falling last day of the session.
01:24They were a group of supporters said, we've got a deal,
01:27but we don't think we're going to get a vote on it.
01:29And so that's, I think, something a lot of people say,
01:31just maybe keep hopes alive that,
01:34you know, maybe they get some extra votes in the election year or whatever.
01:39But as it comes out now, it seems like it was less likely that there was a deal.
01:44And it was just posturing from all the stakeholders saying we did it,
01:47but we did get the vote.
01:49And now heading into 2025, you're looking at a whole new house.
01:54It could switch parties again.
01:56You're looking at these kind of opponents that kind of stood up and said,
02:01no, this isn't going to get done.
02:02There's a chance that 2025 is less likely than it was this year,
02:07despite that comment on the last day from stakeholders saying,
02:11yeah, we got it done.
02:12Maybe this will be great for next year,
02:14but it almost looks like it might be less likely to pass next year.
