Britain's Charles III delivers King's Speech at the State Opening of Parliament

00:00My Lords and members of the House of Commons, my government will govern in
00:06service to the country. My government's legislative programme will be mission
00:12led and based upon the principles of security, fairness and opportunity for
00:18all. Securing economic growth will be a fundamental mission. My government will
00:24seek a new partnership with both business and working people and help the
00:30country move on from the recent cost-of-living challenges by
00:34prioritising wealth creation for all communities. My government will seek to
00:40strengthen the border and make streets safer. A bill will be introduced to
00:46modernise the asylum and immigration system, establishing a new border
00:51security command and delivering enhanced counter-terror powers to tackle
00:57organised immigration crime. My government will ensure a strong defence
01:02based on the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation's common values of
01:07individual liberty, democracy, human rights and the rule of law. Its
01:14commitment to NATO will remain unshakable. It will maintain a strong
01:19armed forces, including the nuclear deterrent. To ensure that the United
01:25Kingdom's defence capabilities are matched to the changing nature of global
01:30strategic threats, my government will conduct a strategic defence review. My
01:36government will continue to give its full support to Ukraine and its people
01:40and it will endeavour to play a leading role in providing Ukraine with a clear
01:47path to NATO membership. My government will seek to reset the relationship with
01:52European partners and work to improve the United Kingdom's trade and
01:56investment relationship with the European Union. My ministers will seek a
02:03new security pact to strengthen cooperation on the mutual threats faced
02:09by the United Kingdom and the European Union. My government will play its part
02:15in trying to secure long-term peace and security in the Middle East. It is
02:21committed to a two-state solution with a safe and secure Israel alongside a
02:28viable and sovereign Palestinian state.
