Rough first day for Tiger Woods.
Transcript
00:00So one last thought, I thought that I'd get to the end of this without asking you about Tiger,
00:03but you mentioned him. He is playing Royal Troon for the first time since 04.
00:07Rex, what stands out about his first round? How's that going?
00:11I think the conditions say it all. And I think it's safe to say now that it's pretty clear
00:16formula. If you can get Tiger Woods on a relatively flat golf course and warm conditions,
00:20and if his body will cooperate, I still firmly believe that the talent is all still there. He
00:25can do things with the golf ball that other players still, even at this advanced age,
00:30cannot do. He can still be a very special golfer. But when you have the conditions like we have
00:34today, again, cold, wet, rainy, the body's not cooperating. That's what you're seeing.
00:39I'm not a therapist. I don't pretend to be a doctor or a medical expert,
00:43but you can see how difficult it is for him to get around this golf course. And it's going to
00:47be a reoccurring theme. This isn't going to change as time goes on. His body's not going
00:52to suddenly heal himself. Now, I'm not in the camp of Colin Montgomery, who suggested this week
00:57that maybe Tiger shouldn't be playing in this tournament. I think I would want to see him play
01:02in every tournament he could possibly and physically play in, because of all the tournaments,
01:06this is the one that I think he could have success on. But he needs to have the luck of the draw.
01:10He needs to have his body cooperate with him, and he needs to have some warm weather.
01:14He nailed it. Hey, really quickly, what do you make of Tiger clapping back on Monty the way he did?
01:20Tiger Woods woke up and chose violence when he was asked about this comment. I love the response.
01:25It was along the lines of, I'm going to butcher it. But he was asked about Monty's comments,
01:28and he said, well, I've won this championship, the Open Championship,
01:31and I'm qualified here until I'm 65. Monty has not.
