00:00This is a childhood classic, a beloved prehistoric behemoth, the Stegosaurus.
00:09The dinosaur lived around 150 million years ago during the Jurassic period, lumbering
00:14around what is now Wyoming.
00:16But this guy will soon live somewhere else in the world, as it just sold at auction.
00:20It is the most complete fossilized skeleton of this species ever found, and it just fetched
00:25some 44.6 million dollars at Sotheby's in New York.
00:29The creature stands 11 feet tall and stretches 20 feet in length, so we hope whomever bought
00:34it has plenty of room to spare.
00:36This is Cassandra Hatton, head of the auction house's science and pop culture division.
00:40Up here is a favorite detail.
00:43This is one of the tail chevrons, if you look at the tail, the spikes underneath, this tells
00:48us that the animal died with the tail curled up under it, so it was in a death pose.
00:55She went on to say that it also had signs of a bone bubble, which is caused by too vigorously
01:00mating, but that that tells us a lot about the individual creature.
01:04Little details like that tell us a lot about this animal, you know.
01:09It was around other stegosauruses, it had a good relationship with other stegosauruses,
01:15it lived a long life and likely died of old age.
