00:00hi kids today we will learn about various bones of our skeletal system so
00:09let's start our skeletal system is the internal framework of our body and we
00:18have 270 bones at the time of birth which are reduced to 206 by our adulthood
00:27our skeletal system has six major functions provide support helps in
00:37movement protect internal organs produces blood cells stores ions and
00:43regulating our endocrine now we will learn the names of bones in our skeletal
00:50system start with our skull our skull is composed of 22 bones out of which 21 are
01:03fused together and provide strength to the skull and protects the delicate
01:09brain inside mandible is the bone that is not fused with other 21 bones
01:18mandible forms the jaw which is a movable part mandible forms the only
01:27movable joint in the skull this superior portion of the skull is known as cranium
01:35and protect the internal organ brain this inferior and anterior portion of
01:44the skull forms of facial bones three bones present inside the ear are
01:50malleus incus and stapes and they are known as auditory ossicles and these are
02:00also the smallest bones in the body then there are 26 vertebrae that forms the
02:09vertebral column of the human body 26 vertebrae are divided into five regions
02:20cervical region thoracic region lumbar region sacrum and coccyx cervical region
02:31means behind the neck thoracic region is behind the chest lumbar is lower back
02:39then we have sacrum and coccyx that forms the tailbone cervical region has
02:48seven vertebrae thoracic 12 vertebrae lumbar 5 vertebrae and one vertebrae
02:57each in the sacrum and coccyx or the tailbone now this is our sternum or the
03:08breastbone it is a thin knife-shaped bone that connects the two ribs by thin
03:16bands of cartilage called the costal cartilage and there are 12 pairs of ribs
03:24that together with the sternum form the rib cage this rib cage protects our
03:33internal organs lungs and heart this bone is called clavicle and this is
03:43scapula and these two bones together are known as pectoral girdle they connect
03:53the upper limb that is our arm to the skeleton pectoral girdle consists of the
04:01left and right clavicles and left and right scapulae humerus this is the bone
04:11of our upper arm it forms a ball and socket joint of the shoulder with the
04:19scapula and also forms the elbow joint with the lower arm bones radius and ulna
04:31these are the two bones of the forearm now let's learn about the pelvic girdle
04:37and the lower limb pelvic girdle consists of left and right hip bones it
04:45connects the lower limbs to the skeleton now let's learn the bones of our lower
04:53limb that is our leg this is femur which is longest bone present in our
05:02body and also the only bone present in the thigh region femur forms the ball
05:12and socket hip joint with the hip bone and also forms the knee joint with the
05:20tibia and patella which are the bones of our lower leg tibia and fibula are
05:30the bones of our lower leg tibia is much larger than the fibula and bears almost
05:39all the body's weight the tibia and fibula form the ankle joint with the
05:48talus one of the seven tarsal bones in the foot tarsals are a group of seven
05:58small bones that form the posterior end of the foot and heel tarsals tarsals
06:09form joints with the five long metatarsals of the foot and each
06:15metatarsal form a joint with one of the set of phalanges in the toes each toe
06:25has three phalanges except the big toe which only has two phalanges so kids
06:34today we learned names of bones of human skeletons now you may go ahead and take
06:41a quiz to learn more bye-bye
