00:00The Republicans seem totally united behind Donald Trump here.
00:07And yet we continue to hear reports of Democratic concerns about President Biden at the top
00:12of the ticket.
00:13We see polling to that extent.
00:14They just mentioned Representative Schiff.
00:18How do Democrats counter this unified Republican front this fall?
00:23We have to counter it with unity.
00:24And the sooner we get past talking about this and talking about what's at stake and what
00:29we've heard for the first three nights of this convention and what we're going to hear
00:32tonight from Donald Trump, the better off we'll be.
00:34I mean, a question was just asked about Project 2025, a rose, but the name is still Rose.
00:40They are talking about it and what they want to do.
00:42And I encourage Americans who are not hearing them say the words Project 2025 on the convention
00:47stage to tune into these MAGA rallies.
00:49They double down on it every single time.
00:51And when they get in front of any type of bigger audience, they try to censor themselves
00:54because they know that these issues are deeply unpopular.
00:57And I think that all you have to do is look at it.
01:00J.D. Vance wants a nationwide abortion ban.
01:02He is going to be the poster child for this, as Congresswoman Beatty just said.
01:05He wrote an op-ed about wanting to repeal Obamacare in the New York Times.
01:10They put the architect of family separation on stage last night and then branded it about
01:15talking about that they want to unify this country.
01:17There's nothing unifying about that.
01:19And so Democrats have to come together to talk about the work that they have done for
01:22the past three and a half years under President Biden, capping prescription drug costs, expanding
01:26health care, expanding health care services to our veterans, making sure that they're
01:31going to be taken care of when they come home, lowering the cost of prescription drugs for
01:35everyone, trying to push for a fair tax code, actually doing something about immigration
01:40and not just lying about it.
01:41And that is our policy and that is our stance.
01:42And we're going to continue to do everything we can to make sure that we're drawing a very
01:47stark contrast between the two different visions of this country.
01:49And I think that Republicans are showing us exactly who they are.
01:52Senator Beatty, do you think the party at this point can unify behind President Biden,
02:01given all the doubts, the public doubts by a lot of your colleagues?
02:07Let me just say, I am very comfortable that we will be more unified because we understand
02:13that diversity is our strength and we are a party of diverse individuals.
02:18But we also recognize greater than that, that unity is our power.
02:23So we're having some family discussion.
02:25I'm comfortable that we'll work through it.
02:27President Biden has given us the answer that he's staying in the race and we're supporting
02:32him.
02:33I agree.
02:34We can, we will unite.
02:35Our convention is still a few weeks away, but it'll be here before you know it.
02:40And you're going to see unity not just during the Democratic National Convention, but in
02:45the days that remain between now and November 5th, because of the important work that we
02:49have to do on the campaign trail.
02:51I would also differ with you on this, what you're going to see from Democrats is unity.
02:56What you see from Republicans isn't unity.
02:59It's falling in line.
03:00Donald Trump has bent this political party to his will.
03:05They do not allow for dissent.
03:07And that's why you haven't heard it at the convention.
03:15And Senator Padilla, we know that Chuck Schumer met with President Biden over the weekend.
03:20He said that the current election trajectory will cost Democrats the Senate.
03:25And our understanding is he's reflecting the view of your caucus.
03:29What is your understanding of how your colleagues feel?
03:31Are you hearing this concern?
03:32Look, we're Democrats, so of course, there's going to be a little diversity in what folks
03:38are thinking and feeling, but I can share with you this in my spare time and with my
03:43wife's permission.
03:45I serve as a vice chair of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee.
03:49So yes, our incumbents in some of the tougher states are facing tougher elections, but they're
03:54doing well.
03:55And I do think there's a difference between the presidential campaign, politics and strategy,
04:02and state-by-state Senate campaigns, politics and strategy.
