Pompey boss John Mousinho talks to The News after the Blues' pre-season victory at Bognor
Transcript
00:00So John another winning run out for Pompey in this pre-season. Yeah I was
00:04really pleased again today I thought to follow up from last night was a really
00:07good performance and result last night I thought we've got all the elements of
00:11what we're looking for again today so we've got the fitness in the lads legs I
00:13think we've picked up one injury but it's just a dead leg to Sammy Silverio so
00:17nothing muscular and no ligaments involved so that's the most pleasing
00:20thing about that so we got through it we've got the minutes into the boys legs
00:24like we did last night and the performance of the back of it I thought
00:27was was was pleasing there were some really good things especially in the
00:33first half of my structure for my shape that we played really well and this game
00:36went on I think it opened up I think the final part of that is the result and
00:39we've got the result maybe could have scored a few more but I think I'm away
00:42from these sort of places you know against a decent Bogner side on a tough
00:47afternoon. It was a very strong starting eleven for yourselves as well wasn't it?
00:51Yeah we you know we picked two sides back to back that we thought were really
00:56strong and probably last night being on AstroTurf we went with a younger
01:01generation so we had probably a few more experienced players and some of the lads
01:05that we wanted to protect from being in 4G so it naturally worked out the way it
01:08did in terms of that split but I think you know anytime we do put a side out we
01:11want it to be strong we did it last year when we put cup sides out and we might make
01:16eleven changes but we still think they're a really strong side and we want to go and compete so any game that we go into this year we want to compete whether it's a top game or a league game.
01:22You knocked the ball around very well as well. I thought so yeah I thought the boys
01:26looked composed and nice and calm on the ball and Bogner pressed quite well
01:30actually it's difficult in times throughout the game particularly when
01:34the goalkeeper had the ball and Bogner were locked on so we had to make sure
01:37that we were patient but also we looked to make forward runs as well I thought
01:40that you know Murph, Sami, Cassini they did that really really well it was really
01:46interesting I think to see that mix between us keeping the ball and
01:48dominating possession and also making sure that we played forward and
01:51passed forward and had dished forward runs as well so really happy with that.
01:54Obviously there were concerns when Sami came off you say it's nothing more than a
01:57dead leg then? Just a dead leg he had a collision with the goalkeeper that led
01:59to that free kick and he's iced it we'll see how severe it is but usually with
02:05dead legs you're looking at either days or probably a maximum of a week so we're not too concerned about that at the time.
02:09So I saw him slap the ball he dug out as well if he'd been serious he would have straightened the dresser in presumably.
02:14Yeah absolutely absolutely and you can probably see from the reaction it was just that collision and one of those
02:19unfortunate things he's put a dead leg on his thigh and he should be fine hopefully for the next couple of days.
02:23Very bright as well wasn't he? Yeah I thought he was very bright playing in a slightly different position to what we saw in the other night.
02:28So just playing in that 10 roll and drifting from side to side and I thought
02:33him and Murph picked up a really good partnership Tom McIntyre found him a
02:35couple of times really well and I thought that was a really pleasing part of the game.
02:39I thought the front four looked very very bright today.
02:41Is that a position he can play do you feel? I think so we wouldn't have played him there today unless we thought he could play there and we're looking at a few different slots with Sami
02:48I think he's probably naturally a left winger or a right winger but the way that he slots into that 10 roll and drifts wide and then sometimes
02:55interchanges with whoever's playing on the left wing as well I think that suits him really well.
02:58Yeah so Sami went off so early well 38th minute because he was making a big impact wasn't he?
03:02Yeah and again as long as we get through these games without any significant injuries and if we get through without having those muscular injuries or if
03:09unfortunately last year where Josh Tucker had that ligament injury significant ligament injury that's what we're trying to avoid this pre-season.
03:16Sometimes you can't but we're trying to get through these games without and I think Sami's mind is very clear.
03:20You've been linked with the Australian left back Jacob Farrell anything in that?
03:23Yeah I mean you know the flatting answer on that is that Jacob's contracted to Central Coast Mariners so yeah we're not going to comment on that this time.
03:31Any other ninja of the niggles at the moment?
03:33We've just got the return of Gavin who's now been back in training for the last couple of days.
03:40He topped up again this morning very very similar with Zach Swanson just making sure that we get those guys back in good time.
03:47But Zach and Gavin both trained fully on Thursday and Friday.
03:52We had a slightly different week because we had so many games so we had training groups on Thursday and training groups on Friday.
03:56Both of them trained and they should be available for full training next week and hopefully by the time we get to the MK and the Charlton games they'll have some interest in that game.
04:08How far is Zach behind?
04:09Probably about a week I'd say. Probably about a week maybe two weeks at most but I don't think it's disastrous considering we've still got three weeks left in pre-season.
04:17So by the time we kick off if he stays fit then we should be able to catch him up more than us.
04:21Thank you.
