00:00Bangladesh's top court has scaled back the controversial quota system at the heart of
00:04deadly student protests. It reserved a third of government jobs for relatives of those who fought
00:10in Bangladesh's 1971 war of independence. The crackdown on the protests has seen over 100
00:16people killed and the country has been under a curfew. Under the Supreme Court's latest ruling,
00:21the majority of government jobs will now be given out based on merit. Take a listen.
00:30Considering the current perspective, the general public will have 93% of the total jobs.
00:365% will be reserved for the children and grandchildren of the freedom fighters,
00:421% for ethnic minorities, and 1% for the disabled and members of the third gender.
00:55Well, student groups say that they want the quotas to be scrapped entirely,
00:59and they have vowed to continue their movement.
