Steamy and stormy in the southern Plains this week

Showers and thunderstorms will bring a risk of severe weather to Texas this week, but the benefit is no extreme heat for a few days.

00:00Let's take your time here throughout Oklahoma into Texas to see what's in
00:03stores. We go a little deeper to this evening, 88 39 o'clock, still some
00:07storms around, especially from Dallas on south, and these will be slow
00:11movers. So heavy rainfall rates can obscure, reduce visibility
00:15significantly, leading the ponding areas of high water, potentially with
00:19some gusty winds to definitely having some travel impacts written all over
00:24them. As we slip down into the seventies later on tonight, most of the
00:28storms here will be early on, but then we'll see additional thunderstorms
00:31developing around Dallas, San Antonio and Memphis heading into Tuesday. That
00:36will put a lid on the temperature. In other words, we're not gonna be
00:39experiencing high heat, but there will be high humidity actually look like a
00:43pretty nice day here in Oklahoma City at 87 degrees, along with mostly sunny
00:47skies. You can see the gutter gushing downpours there in and around Little
00:51Rock. Recently, we're gonna see more of those as we head our way into Tuesday.
00:55Notice again Houston, San Antonio, New Orleans, Jackson. This is an area where
00:59we could see a little bit more of an uptick in coverage of thunderstorms, a
01:03little more spotty, perhaps from Dallas again sliding north easterly. But the
01:08overall flavor for the next several days will be steamy and stormy from I
01:1320 on south, basically running from near the Red River on south, and this
01:16will bring some travel disruptions with the potential of some flash flooding.
01:21Here's temperatures as we go to Wednesday, Dallas. Most of the storms
01:24just south of you at this point at 93 still looking at some drenching rains
01:28around Houston, San Antonio, even southbound toward Corpus Christi and
01:32also heading into New Orleans down the road. Even further, we go Dallas and
01:36look at this. I spy no triple digits all the way through the upcoming weekend
01:42and early next week. So it has been on the mild side here that we have been
01:47talking about again the higher humidity and also showers and thunderstorms, and
01:51we'll see more of those here as we work our way right into Tuesday.
