Man treated in Port Macquarie after being mauled by shark

A surfer from Port Macquarie on the New South Wales mid north coast is recovering in hospital after being bitten by a shark. The 23-year-old managed to fight-off the three-metre shark but not before sustaining a serious leg injury. Bystanders performed first aid using a makeshift torniquet before an ambulance arrived. Paramedics say their actions may well have saved the young surfer's life.
