00:00Hello. Are you going to tell me about this?
00:15Okay, so I'm one of the instructors at Cortham Pottery's Guild. I'm part of the pottery group
00:21that does the market. We've been doing downtown and landstown markets over the years, quite
00:29a few years. So we take turns through this space and each one of us brings our own work
00:35to sort of show some of the things that we can do, some of the things that we've been
00:40working on and experimenting with. As I said, we're all instructors at the Cortham Pottery's
00:46Guild over on Tallwood, and during the school year we have lots of classes running, and
00:51in the summer we have a summer day camp for kids.
00:54Oh, wow.
00:55Yeah.
00:56Wow, that's amazing.
00:57We have activities even during the summer. There's flex clay for adults. We have about
01:06three, going on four kilns over at the Guild.
01:09Oh, wow.
01:10Yes, so it's a busy, busy place.
01:13So how long has it been around for, the group?
01:15The Guild started, I believe, in 94.
01:19Wow.
01:20I started potting in the early 80s. I took some classes with Sir Sanford Fleming, back
01:27when it was called Sir Sanford Fleming.
01:29I remember Sanford Fleming.
01:30Yes, that's right.
01:31Yes.
01:32That's right, and I started up on a kick wheel.
01:35Oh, wow.
01:36And I started at Cone 6 at that time, back in the 80s and the 90s, when most people were
01:43still firing hotter, and I decided to go electric because I thought, oh, it's better for the
01:49environment. It's not using gas, propane. So I have developed some designs, and I continue
01:58to experiment and tweak.
02:00Oh, wow.
02:01I make my own glazes, and I mix up my own stains for the slips. Not the stains, but
02:07I mix up my own slips.
02:08So did you make this yourself?
02:09So I hand paint.
02:10You hand paint?
02:11I hand paint, and these are only some of my designs. I can't bring them all.
02:15No, of course not.
02:16Like I said, I love to experiment.
02:18And these are your plates, too?
02:20Yeah, I used to do a lot of dinnerware sets, whole dinnerware sets.
02:24Oh, wow.
02:25And I can still do them. I don't do them as often now. But yeah, yeah, when I first
02:32started, we didn't have the range of color, so I worked in a grass pattern, in the pine
02:39trees, in the iris, and this, again, is a slip that I mix up myself to paint with, and
02:45I use watercolor brushes for these ones.
02:48Oh, wow.
02:49Yeah, yeah. And then watercolor brushes for the Queen Anne's lace design. Then I use
02:55some bigger brushes, more of your bamboo style brushes.
02:59And just simple style, too?
03:01And then, yeah, and I really, really work on form. I love shaping things on the wheel.
03:06I really, really enjoy it.
03:07So you've been doing this for a very long time.
03:09Yeah, yeah. I eventually got myself a really nice electric wheel.
03:12Oh, wow.
03:13And I have a fairly large kiln of my own at home, so I do my work in my own studio at
03:18home. And each one of us either has a home studio or works for the Guild. And, yep, we
03:28alternate on our various dates.
03:31Oh, so that's the alternation there?
03:33Yeah, that's the alternation there. And then we'll be back in the fall. We're taking August
03:38off. Most of us are having holidays. We go camping with our grandsons.
03:42And you're inside during the winter?
03:44And we're inside during the winter, yeah.
03:46Okay, and what's your name?
03:48I am Priya Harding. Priya Harding.
03:50Oh, Priya. Oh, it's right there. I get it.
03:52It's right there. And, yeah, and all my wear is dishwasher and microwave, safe. I have
04:01a butter dish that I've been using for 25 years.
04:04Oh, wow.
04:05So I have tried all of my stuff. I know it works. Yes.
04:10Wow.
04:11Yeah. In fact, I had one customer who had bought a dinnerware set back in the 80s come
04:18about two and a half years ago and asked me to make a few more, a couple more mugs and
04:26another bowl and another plate for her set.
04:29Oh, wow.
04:30So over all those years, she just broke a few pieces and I was able to replace the ones
04:35that she needed.
04:36Oh, wow.
04:37Yeah, so it's good. It's all good.
04:40Yes, very durable.
04:41Oh, thank you. Yeah, thank you for your time. I appreciate it.
04:43Oh, thank you.
04:44What's your name?
04:45It's really nice to meet you.
04:46Harding. Yes, Harding again.
04:47Priya.
04:48Priya. Priya Harding.
04:49Priya. Yeah.
04:50Yes, my name's Paul.
04:51Nice to meet you, Paul.
04:52Thank you.
04:53Nice to meet you.
04:54Thank you very much.
04:55Yeah.
04:56Yeah.
04:57All right, everyone.
04:58You should drop by the guild sometime and check it out.
04:59I will, yeah.
05:00Lots of fun.
05:01Absolutely.
05:02Yeah, thank you.
05:03Okay.
05:04All right, everyone.
05:05Take good care.
05:06Yeah.
05:07Okay.
05:08Bye for now.
05:09I've talked with her and a few other people.
05:11So, I'm still going to continue, and I shall see you shortly.
05:14Bye for now.
