00:00stuff. So here it was, he, uh, he was talking to some reporters at the Olympics, right?
00:06After his media session, apparently he was talking to a small group of writers,
00:09according to Vince Goodwill of Yahoo sports, NBA reporter. And, uh, it says in the article,
00:16bam out of bio has been one of the most affable stars in the NBA, always accommodating,
00:21but even he can have his rightful moments of frustration. He's made the all defensive team
00:24every year since the 2019, 20 season, but has not won the top award finishing third this past
00:30year behind Rudy Gobert and Victor Wim Benyama. And times were raised when he shrugged off the
00:34possibility of going against the French duo in the Olympics. So he spoke about it after his media
00:39session to a small group of writers in Las Vegas, quote, all I have to do this. Uh, all I have to do
00:44is average 2010 and five. He said that Yahoo sports recently muttering down the hallway of
00:49the Las Vegas Bellagio hotel. Then he says, that's one thing that irks me. It's not my fault
00:56that I'm versatile. I've been top five and defensive player of the year vote in the last five
01:00years. And there's been guys y'all are giving it to over me, uh, because the CBA stipulates
01:06individual awards can escalate contract values out of bio, uh, one at one of the head out of
01:11bio one at one of these years, he would have been eligible for a greater contract extension than the
01:15three year, 166 million that he agreed to recently. If he had waited, he can done a
01:20four-year deal. It would have netted over 100 million more, but you get the feeling it's less
01:24about the money and more about the recognition. So quote, a point guard got it over me. A center
01:29got it over me and a power forward got it over me. The goalposts move for me in certain degrees.
01:35It's me and a lot of undrafted dudes. And we still have a top five defense.
01:40All these other guys have all NBA dudes around them. And some of it is they really don't care
01:44about us and that's fine. I think they should pay more attention to consistency because being top
01:48five defensive player of the year, I think I have the longest streak of all, all defensive teams.
01:53So the goalposts move for me. He's fair boy. He's right. He is a receipt. I think
02:05when they gave it to, uh, what's the name from the Celtics that really got really pissed them
02:10off. Yeah. That really pissed them off. And he didn't make first team that year either.
02:14That really pissed him off too. That really pissed him off. Uh, he says of those players,
02:20Vince Google writes, he's the only one with the offensive responsibility and is the hub for the
02:24offense. U S Olympic assistant coach, Eric's poster was amused when this was brought up.
02:28Quote, we're still talking about that. Good. He said somewhat sarcastically,
02:33it's all how you view it. There's a lot of factors that go into it. It's all about having a great
02:36defensive team. It's about anchoring a great defense and making players around you better
02:40defensively and having extraordinary defensive talent. He checks all those boxes, but that
02:45argument we're passing now. Yeah. Well, not the BAMs. Not, I mean, what do you want him to like?
02:52Listen, I would like for once can Eric's poster come out and call the rest of them bums too.
03:00I would like that. I would like that if he did. Yeah, sure. I would like that.
03:04You know what? It's one of those things where you just say, we got you bam. You know what I'm
03:10saying? But I think it is interesting. Like people, like, I don't think there's anybody
03:14in the league that probably trusts media voters less than bam on a bio. Right? Like,
03:18so when people are wondering, well, is he going to punt on the extension? Is it going to go into
03:23next year? There's no way he's going to do that. You know, put your 200 plus million dollar contract
03:29in the bank. Cause you know, what if the worst happens, you know, but it's, it is, it is a
03:34frustrating thing because it does feel like the rules always change for him. And, and then I think
03:39also like you just get these narratives behind guys. Um, and it's crazy. It's crazy that he just
03:45doesn't get that, uh, that respect. I don't know if the Olympics will help with that going into
03:51next year because it's not the players who vote for it. It's the media. It's not the players who
03:56vote for it. And so like understand what you're trusting to people, right? You're trusting to,
04:07to some of the moodiest emotion, uh, written people where if you do an interview, when they
04:16ask you, that means you'll get their vote. It's politics, right? They don't, they can't, you know,
04:22they want the players to do their job because it's part of the deal. Yet if they don't like
04:30somebody, they can't just do their job. So when it comes to like what bam is going through,
04:41that's all sports. If a writer doesn't like you, he's never going to say anything nice about you.
04:46Even if you, huh? He's so chummy, but, but it's, it's, I think it has more to do with
04:56what if you want to get a job in a big market? What if you want to be liked in Boston? What if
05:02you want, you see what I'm saying? Like it's like, I get so annoyed at the fact that people turn on
05:11the TV every day and say, I don't care what's going on in your life. Just do your job. And I
05:20have to go and answer questions to a person that you have to treat really nice and be kind to,
05:28otherwise still write bad things about you because they can't be that. And you know it, you know,
05:34when, when people don't like a player, you can usually go back into their history
05:41and see the header interaction where he wouldn't answer questions. And it all starts from there.
05:50He is right though. The, uh, the Marcus, the bar keeps moving the market. The Marcus
05:53smart one is really annoying. Yes, of course. Of course. Because, because like that,
06:00he guarded more guys, more different guys than Marcus. Well, I think the other thing that annoyed
06:04me about that year is, you know, I get it guys who are on the best teams that he haven't had the
06:10best regular season record the last couple of years. So I get that goes into award voting.
06:15That's fine. That's true. Well, yeah, their team stinks. Right. But, uh, but that year that he
06:22were the one seed and the only knock that you could have against him that year was missing games
06:28because he had a fluke thumb injury. So he missed part of the first half of the season.
06:33It sounds like sucked the first half of that season. Yep. They were terrible and didn't
06:38matter by the end of it. Ooh, this is the great, this is the greatest defense I've ever seen.
06:46I want to know what's going to happen with this Jalen Brown thing. It feels like this
06:48guy's really pissed about this, by the way. Yeah. Are there any updates on his Twitter?
06:54He does the same exact things as Derek white, except better.
06:58He posted J Fig. This is what he posted. He goes, uh, he posted to Nike. Uh, he goes,
07:04so this is what we're going to do. So he's implying this as a Nike conspiracy as to why
07:08he's not picked. And then Stephen, a Smith who they've been having a back and forth
07:14about why people, uh, you know, Stephen Smith can get into his beefs.
07:18Um, I think it was like, he said something about, Oh, he's not marketable or
07:23things like that. And then, uh, he adds Jalen Brown yesterday. And he says, do y'all believe
07:29me now? Jalen Brown, do I need to reveal my sources now? Is it not obvious how in the hell
07:34is a $300 million man now a champion and a finals MVP, clearly a top two way player on the Celtics
07:40and the top 15 player in the world, not chosen for team USA. Um, because his teammate not named
07:46datum is selected before him. Come on y'all. And, uh, Jalen Brown has responded to this saying,
07:51uh, I don't care who your resources are. I'm not afraid of you and your resources.
07:57I'm not afraid of you and your resources. Yeah.
08:02That's a, you think that's a Stephen Smith comes off vacation for that? Or do you think
08:06he just waits until he's back? Uh, Oh, he gonna keep going. He's just keep going. He's not going
08:13away. But the thing is, is that like, and if I take that same, that same thing right there,
08:24right. Okay. Say, so Stephen, a is saying that he's not marketable. That's why he's not on the
08:31team. Correct. Yeah. And why isn't Caitlin Clark? And why isn't Caitlin Clark on team USA? Yeah.
08:40I don't know. See what I'm saying? Like, this is what I mean about you can move it wherever you
08:46want. There, there is, there's gotta be something that makes, it's gotta be something, but I'm just
08:52saying that you can move this however you want to make your point. And it sucks. Like there is
09:02no reason in the world that a guy who just got a $300 million contract that was the finals MVP
09:12that does the same exact things as two chipped, right? Don't call them that. What
09:20you call them tooth chip. I could call them. What's LM. It's a lawnmower mouth.
09:32Or like that movie, what blended?
09:40I don't know. You know what? You know what? Nobody is happier about this than Chris Middleton
09:45because you've gotten off of him and now you have a new favorite. He, he was predator,
09:52but Christmas was present. He say, say, why are your mouth so small, but you have
10:00700 teeth in your mouth. He does. Chris Middleton, if he lost three teeth, they would all,
10:07he would still have plenty. Do you think, uh, the one thing that's interesting in those comments
10:11from ma'am, I wonder if like, yeah, I have a problem. I have a problem with, with people
10:16saying he's not marketable. This has nothing to do about being marketable. You know what?
10:22They have rules in golf, right? Here's what you need to do to make the golf golf team.
10:27We don't get voted on. You either make it or you don't end of discussion.
10:33Let me ask you this. Do you think bam Middleton is big teeth. Here we go. Oh,
10:42many teeth. Once you get it, once you get, he's not going to stop. Let me ask you this. Do you
10:48think that the bam, Hey, how hard would you think it would be for them to open up? Um, if I had a
10:53beer, can I just say, go ahead and get me a big fella. I feel like it would be hard. Cause I feel
11:00like the, the T the teeth security is not, is not great. Oh, but he could open up a can, right?
11:06Cause those have the little ragged edges on the bottom. I don't want to spit all up in my,
11:12my vegetables though. You know, if I get, can I ask you something about this quote with bam?
11:17Sure. Should I read into at all him saying that it's me and a lot of undrafted dudes?
11:26He, he did. Why, why are we sitting here concentrating on what he said about not
11:32winning the deepest play? There are some folks that got caught with some strains,
11:37right? I'm just wondering. Uh, I mean, it is facts at times he's out there. Of course. Right.
11:46But do you think that, do you think that's a frustration with heat roster construction
11:50or do you think, I don't think it's a shot at his teammates. I think he likes his teammates.
11:53Obviously he likes, you know, that's a reality. That's a fact. Do you think that's kind of like
11:58a little, uh, at the organization? No, he's just signed an extension. No, I'm not saying
12:04frustrated, but like just one, you have that cloud of the organization. You're like, Hey,
12:08it's me and a bunch of undrafted dudes here. Now listen, I love these drafts. Is it okay?
12:15Is it okay to make your point and base those facts on making that point and not necessarily
12:22meaning any of the other stuff? I think he was just making that point for that conversation,
12:28but not, not taking shots. No, no, no, no, no. Dan, do you think there's a little something?
12:32Nah, he's just trying to make his case. You know, you present your case the way you like
12:36to present it. I don't think he's taking a shot at Spoe and Pat Riley, but I did,
12:42I did find that audit that did perk my ears up a little bit, a little something.
12:53What were you not listening to seconds ago? No, I was not. What do you, do you think that
12:58there's something, do I read into anything when Bam says the goalposts are moving? I'm going to
13:03say don't read into it because you read into a lot of things and then it spirals and then people
13:12come blaming us for the things that you, I don't think anybody's blaming us. It's me and a lot of
13:17undrafted dudes. I got to find, I got to, I'm going to do it. I'm going to do it. Stephen say,
13:22I want to see Leroy first and second team all teeth. Please don't do that.
13:27Oh, I picture this tomorrow. Like we play the, uh, the John test
13:35and all of a sudden we're getting, uh, your, your top
13:44comes in with 35 teeth mouth like a caveman.
13:51Yeah. Nobody's on the same team or on the same page.
13:59What did a shark in the shark left
14:04middle time.
14:10We got a scrappy one coming off the bench. You didn't think that he could dunk. Think again.
14:15They call him bumpy and so are his gums. Tyler Johnson.
14:26This one played in the finals, lost a tooth. It grew right back,
14:34but nobody, nobody is in unison. Braces would help just a little
14:43now and Olympian brace yourself. Brace yourself for Derek. Why?
15:01I can't with you. Hey, this poor man. He's not poor anymore. No, he, well, no, I know that.
15:09I know that. Wow.
15:15Dade South MVPs, most veneers present.
15:19He ain't got no veneers. No, no. Them guys, first of all, you can tell veneers,
15:23their teeth are straight. So before they do anything about veneers or anything like that,
15:29we need a little, uh, straightening of the palette.
15:34Dennis Lopez says, bam, doesn't have any NBA all-stars around him. He ain't lying.
15:38It's not, but you don't even need, here's the problem. Here's the problem. And, and I'm gonna
15:44give like, this is the one time that I will give you what you say in defense of the heat all the
15:54time or Miami sports. There's some guys that have done some tremendous things down here in the last
16:01few years and it goes unnoticed for basketball for whatever reason. Right. Then they get into
16:09the playoffs and usually they make a little run and then everybody want to act like they'd been
16:13with them all the time. Yeah. Now, in order for somebody to win some of these awards,
16:20they have to be that way all year and they never are right. They almost seem like they show
16:26interest in the heat when it have to, because they're the only team on TV and that kind of
16:32sucks. But I will also say a lot of this is the heat zone doing because I have so many injuries
16:43and so many guys out that people lose interest in and say, Oh, well, they're not ready until
16:48I agree with that. I think, I think another thing too, that's interesting with the heat.
16:51And I think that has, I think you're starting to hear bam. Like you'd mentioned him wanting to be
16:56at the four, right? Like he had a comment this week saying he's excited to be on this team.
17:01The most guys he's most excited to play with AD and Joel. So I can be at the four. Right. And I
17:06think that heat culture, if you are a talented star and you're drafted into that, I think it's
17:13hard for you to come out of your shell of like, I don't always want to have to do all of the things
17:19to get everybody up in and all the unselfish things. And it's, those things are admirable,
17:24but they don't necessarily get you the star treatment here. Here's what happens. Okay.
17:29Your stars can't be team players. We're expecting you. We're paying you all the money to win.
17:36I don't want my $200 million guy having 12 assists. No, I want you to have 30.
17:46And so when you see bam and you see Jimmy and you see these guys trying to,
17:52Ooh, he's getting everybody involved early. No, you're getting the money so you can do it.
17:59So I do get what bet where bam is coming from. Cause bam almost has the attitude. I want to do
18:05it, but I'm doing this. Right. So at the four, maybe it'd be a little bit different.
18:12Take a break.
