00:11Alrighty, ladies and gentlemen, I am Richard.
00:13This is Random Street Theater.
00:15I have seen The Inheritance.
00:19A very predictable film.
00:22Before I get into that, let me remind you that for every thousand subscribers I get,
00:24I do purchase one of these bracelets from 4ocean.
00:274ocean pulls its pound of trash out of the ocean every time I do that.
00:30If you'd be so kind as to comment, like, and subscribe, you'd be doing your part for a better world.
00:34Now, Inheritance, what is happening is a bunch of wealthy, unlikable people
00:43are going to their unlikable father's house.
00:49It's not made clear until the end, but none of them have children for some reason.
00:55And, you know, what it is, he says, if you've seen the commercial or the trailer,
01:00hey, I'm going to die tonight.
01:03If I live till morning, you get your inheritance.
01:06If I don't, you don't get any of my money.
01:09It all goes to a charity.
01:12And then, of course, hilarity ensues.
01:15And you've got the good son, his wife, the two twins who are both evil,
01:26and the only hot chick in this, well, the hottest chick in this movie,
01:31who dies too soon.
01:34And, of course, you know, they're all at this house,
01:38and it is implied that, you know, it's not a person coming, it's a thing.
01:44All the servants have been sent home, all the security people have been sent home,
01:48and a very predictable, slow, people-getting-knocked-off thing is happening.
01:55All right?
01:57It's a very basic film.
02:00And, I mean, it's not poorly done in any way.
02:04The characters are okay.
02:08I mean, they're not well-written.
02:10It's very much cookie-cutter.
02:13It's like this is the frozen burrito of films.
02:16And, I mean, it's like, you know, is a frozen burrito a bad thing?
02:21No, frozen burritos can be good.
02:23It's just they're very predictable.
02:27I mean, I remember halfway through this film thinking,
02:30oh, so that's what's happening.
02:33And then that was what was happening.
02:35It was very predictable for me.
02:37I mean, the house is beautiful.
02:39The sets are beautiful.
02:40It's a very interesting environment.
02:45I mean, they've got priceless works of art, which have no business being in that house.
02:50You know, there's not a lot of weapons.
02:51They're all locked in.
02:53So it's not unlike that child vampire movie.
02:57You know, it's one of those, instead of it being a siege film, it's a shut-in film.
03:02And, I mean, there were episodes of The Twilight Zone, I believe, that were shut-in films.
03:09So, you know, it's why can't we leave?
03:14Oh, well, the house won't let us leave for whatever reason.
03:17In this case, the house is designed to lock them in.
03:22It's kind of like the remake of House on Haunted Hill.
03:26It's a very done plot, and that's kind of the problem.
03:29I mean, I'm searching for things to say about this movie because it is such a done plot.
03:34I mean, you know what's going on.
03:36It is a done plot.
03:38There's not anything new or interesting, and the characters are bland.
03:45You know, it's the one diversity character there, which is that one dude's wife.
03:51You know, she's good to look at, and she's a competent actor, but they don't really give her much to work with.
03:57She's just pure as the driven snow.
03:59Yes, yeah.
04:01Like, okay, you know, you don't really make her a complicated character,
04:05but that's one of those things about this movie.
04:09The theme is you can't cheat an honest man, and I mean, look, I didn't dislike this movie.
04:15I didn't super like this movie.
04:18It's a very middle-of-the-road film, and in fact, on IMDb, it gets a 4.6 for Rotten Tomatoes.
04:27Critics are giving it a 45% approval rating, and audiences a 40,
04:31and typically what you should be looking at is the audience rating because that's the largest group of people,
04:39and, you know, it's like, yeah, okay, I personally would have given it higher than a 40, you know, if it were me.
04:47I say it's the middle of the watch list.
04:49I mean, if you have to watch a movie, this is not a terrible movie to watch.
04:54It's a logical movie.
04:57It makes sense with its own internal logic.
05:00It's just very, very done.
05:03It's a movie that has been done, and that's kind of the thing.
05:07It doesn't bring anything new or interesting to the table.
05:10It's just a movie about a bunch of rich people who are greedy and evil,
05:15trying to save money that they're going to lose if they don't do the thing,
05:19and you watch this movie, and you think, well, okay, I watched that movie.
05:26So, yeah, middle of the watch list.
05:28I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it.
05:30It was a fun enough movie, and it moved fast enough to keep my interest,
05:34but that's just my opinion, and I'd love to hear yours down in the comments below.
