US President Joe Biden tells Americans he quit the 2024 election to unite the country, saying in a historic Oval Office speech that it was time to pass the torch to a new generation.

00:10I'd like to thank our great Vice President Kamala Harris.

00:24But I've decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation.

00:41But in the defense of democracy, which is at stake, I think it's more important than

00:47I draw strength and I find joy in working for the American people.
