00:04The real turning point in my journey to Islam came when I was reading the Qur'an in translation
00:08for the first time cover to cover back in 2020.
00:12And I got to around the middle, to Sūrat Ash-Shu'ara, when four words in particular
00:17struck me really, really hard.
00:20I'd already read many times Allah subḥānahu wa-ta'ālā saying that He chooses for Himself
00:26whomever He wishes, like He picks who is going to be a Muslim and who's not going to
00:31be a Muslim.
00:32That's entirely in Allah's hands.
00:34And I'd come to accept that that was a key detail of Islam.
00:38It's not in our hands, it's in Allah's hands.
00:42So when I got to Sūrat Ash-Shu'ara, I was blown away by these four words in the 13th
00:48ayah when Allah subḥānahu wa-ta'ālā adds the detail that He guides to Himself whoever
00:55turns to Him.
00:57يَهْدِي إِلَيْهِ مَنْ يَهْدِي إِلَيْهِ
