00:04Anti-war protestors greet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington, D.C.
00:10as he seeks to show up support for his country's conflict in Gaza.
00:15Speaking to Congress, the Israeli leader took aim at those protestors,
00:20calling them shameful,
00:22while thanking the U.S. government for its support
00:24and appealing for more military aid.
00:27In World War II, as Britain fought on the front lines of civilization,
00:33Winston Churchill appealed to Americans with these famous words,
00:37give us the tools and we'll finish the job.
00:41Today, as Israel fights on the front line of civilization,
00:45I too appeal to America,
00:47give us the tools faster and we'll finish the job faster.
00:52Netanyahu's comments were welcomed by Republican lawmakers,
00:56but some Democrats present held a silent protest,
00:59holding signs that said war criminal.
01:03Many other lawmakers from the Democratic Party missed the speech entirely,
01:07boycotting his appearance to instead attend a side event in D.C.,
01:11calling for a ceasefire and peace.
01:13Let us do! Let us do! Let us do!
01:17But hopes for progress towards a ceasefire and hostage release deal were dashed,
01:21as the Israeli leader provided few details on any deal progress.
01:26With 39,000 Palestinians killed in the ongoing war
01:30and more than 100 Israelis still being held in Gaza,
01:33in Tel Aviv,
01:35people demanded Netanyahu do more to bring the hostages home.
01:39This is the only sentence that he has to say.
01:42We have a deal.
01:45We are bringing them home.
01:48This is the only thing that we want to hear.
01:51I don't care what else he has to say.
01:53With the war reaching its 10th month,
01:56pressure is mounting on Netanyahu to end the conflict.
02:00In his speech to U.S. lawmakers,
02:02the Israeli prime minister was expected to address a ceasefire resolution
02:06laid out by the United States and supported by the U.N. Security Council.
02:11But instead, the leader was defiant,
02:14calling for a total victory against Hamas.
02:17The same speech could have been delivered on October 8th, quite frankly.
02:22And you'd never know that there was an Israeli ceasefire proposal
02:26that was official U.S. policy
02:28and supported by everyone in the international community.
02:33But as Netanyahu's language around a ceasefire deal remains unchanged,
02:37relatives of the hostages will be given a chance to press the issue
02:40in a meeting with the Israeli leader and President Joe Biden.
02:44And as Washington remains fiercely divided on Israel's invasion of Gaza,
02:49the Israeli prime minister will also meet
02:51with presumed Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris
02:55and Republican candidate Donald Trump
02:57as he continues to rally for support.
03:01Devon Tsai and Rosie Greninger for Taiwan Plus.
