00:00France 24's Diptika Lajon went to check out the archery competition that's got underway
00:04at the iconic Place de l'Invalide here in Paris without a public for a series of logistical
00:10reasons.
00:11We're here in the heart of Paris at the Invalide Esplanade where the archery competition has
00:21gotten underway for the Olympic Games.
00:24Now Paris holds a very special place for the sport of archery because it was here at the
00:291900 Paris Olympic Games that archery made its Olympic debut.
00:34This year athletes from 53 countries are vying for a medal in the archery competition
00:40of them Uzbekistan which is making its Olympic debut here in Paris this year.
00:46I don't think we can win because our athletes have not too much high quality I think but
00:58I hope.
00:59Now archery can also celebrate the fact that this year it has achieved complete gender
01:05equality of the 128 archers in competition, 64 are men and 64 are women.
01:13Just across the road from me at Les Invalides the qualifications of the archery competition
01:18got underway this Thursday.
01:21There were no spectators present but some curious locals and passers-by did come here
01:26to see the final touches being put on the opening ceremony preparations.
01:31Brilliant.
01:32We're going to love seeing all the barges go by with all the athletes and it's going
01:36to be a unique experience.
01:37And it's going to be very good for Paris I think.
01:39Security is at its highest ahead of Friday's opening ceremony taking place on the Seine
01:45River which hundreds of thousands of people are expected to attend.
