00:00Wading through storm waters, people in southern Taiwan are sifting through the aftermath of
00:05Typhoon Kemi, which killed at least seven people and brought flooding, landslides and
00:10power outages affecting thousands of households around the country.
00:14In many of the worst affected areas, school and work have been stopped for a third day
00:18in a row, as they focus on recovery, which looks to be a long journey ahead.
00:23It's 1.8 meters deep.
00:27You have to swim to get in.
00:28In the old days, it used to be like this,
00:33but now it's all gone.
00:34In Taiwan's agricultural heartland, flooding caused major damage to farms.
00:38As you all know, Kaikyuan is a place where geese live.
00:41Because of the typhoon and the strong wind,
00:47our geese have suffered a lot of damage.
00:51We estimate that the damage caused by the typhoon will be more than NT$35 million.
00:56The typhoon also damaged roads and even bridges,
00:59prompting officials to warn people out on the streets to be careful.
01:03So far, it seems that many local governments in southern Taiwan
01:09are still on alert.
01:13Although the typhoon is slowly moving away, the heavy rain is still here.
01:18So we still need to be on alert.
01:21Several cargo ships near Taiwan's southern coast were also caught in the typhoon,
01:25which was downgraded to a tropical storm after ripping through the country.
01:28Five of the vessels were grounded safely,
01:30but the search is still on for four Burmese crew members missing after their ship sank.
01:35As heavy rains continue to pelt the country,
01:37damage from the deadly typhoon may still worsen,
01:40as the country anticipates more summer storms heading this way.
