00:00My new album is definitely a more contemporary sound, a more contemporary feel because it's
00:21not classical and it's not pop and it's not new age and you know it's just everything
00:27putting together because I think it just makes for a much more interesting album if
00:30you mix loads of different types of songs together.
00:33At least for my first two albums it was quite difficult because then of course I had such
00:40a small repertoire because I was just starting out and also it's quite difficult to find
00:44songs that are suitable for my voice because they don't write classical music for like
00:49twelve thirteen year olds but now I've grown a bit older and you know I can, I've got a
00:55bit more variety and also my repertoire has grown so for this album it was kind of taking
01:00about thirty songs and narrowing them down.
01:03I'm so animated today.
01:06Working with Keith Thomas who's the producer for the new album was something that was my
01:11decision because Grace and Jeremy who were the producers in the past, fantastic, really
01:16really brilliant producers but strictly classical and you know I was just like well I wanted
01:21to experiment and try some different things and see if there was any different sounds
01:25that I could come out with.
01:26It does have kind of like a more contemporary sound, a more contemporary feel and also like
01:31with songs like the Habanera from Carmen, a very very famous aria and it's been done
01:35and redone many many times and you know after like the thirty fifth remake of it you know
01:42it's kind of you know really, it loses all of its pizzazz.
01:46When I was in the studio I recorded with Jesse Cooke and he arranged the Habanera with the
01:52big South American drums and the flamenco guitar so the whole album is going to have
01:57kind of a different vibe from my other albums.
02:08Carrick Fergus is an Irish song, a Celtic song and it's got a nice little whistle in
02:14it and it's really different because it's kind of got a bit of a ballady feel but then
02:20it's still Celtic and I've relaxed my voice a bit more so it's not so operatic but you
02:25know it's still got quite an epic feel.
02:28Papa can you hear me?
02:42Papa can you see me?
02:43Papa can you hear me is a gorgeous song, it's got lots of different sections that are like
02:46changing and parts of it are really slow and just really kind of whispery and quiet and
02:52then parts of it are just really loud and really fast so it's a lovely song, I really
02:56like that one.
02:58I was brought up on rock, classical, Barbra Streisand, Motown, soul, everything but I've
03:04never really wanted to be a pop singer because I like being different and I like being like
03:12individual from them because there are a lot of kind of teeny pop sensations around and
03:19I like being a little like separate brand from them.
03:23I'm not really kind of conscious of my image, I'm not really thinking well this is what
03:26I should wear at this premiere because this is the image I want to project. Whatever I
03:30wear is just whatever I like to wear and as I grow up then you know that's going to get
03:34different and it's going to change. I'm a bit of a shopaholic, I love shoes and clothes
03:40and so I'll have to kind of stop myself there and be kind of restricted which is really
03:45difficult because I'm like all I want to do is just have fun with my friends.
03:49That's lush.
03:51I love all the girly stuff, I love getting manicures and pedicures and facials and being
03:54pampered and getting my hair done. My friends back home, you know if I kind of said let's
03:58go and get a manicure, pedicure and facial, you know, they'd go, er, no Charl, we're just
04:04going to go to town and have a look in the local shop, alright? You know, but I mean
04:09say if we were all like teenagers in LA, I think it'd be kind of normal like me to run
04:13totally, let's go to the mall and get a manicure, you know.
04:16So much makeup.
04:18I can't really consider myself as like a spokesperson for my age because, well to be honest I haven't
04:24even thought of any kind of like good mottos for my life yet because I've only lived like
04:2815 years of it. I mean I'm not really sure what I'm going to do in the future, I mean
04:32I love all types of music but I quite like what I'm doing and I suppose, you know, like
04:38again in years to come if I develop in that way then I can still have little dances and
04:44you know be a bit of a Spanish girl, that'd be class.
