Liam and Jordan react to NUFC pre-season win at Hull City

00:30Lewis Hall in the makeshift midfield role I thought helped really drive Newcastle forward.

00:36Defensively as well, had a couple of moments where you can see he's really improved.

00:40So I thought it was a really bright opening friendly on home turf for him.

00:44And then probably Jacob Murphy was the standout.

00:48On the right-hand side, described them as unplayable in my play-array,

00:52which I did caveat the fact that it was pre-season. I made a little bit of a joke of it.

00:56In terms of describing his performance, he didn't do anything wrong.

01:02So, yeah, there was a couple of really good performances in there.

01:06And then I thought in the second half, Hull came in with a little bit of a build-up.

01:10That's because Newcastle made a lot of changes.

01:12A lot of the youngsters coming on from 60-minute onwards.

01:15I mean, just on the youngsters as well, I thought the standout was probably Trevinson.

01:19You see, I'd probably agree with that, yeah.

01:22Alfie Harrison looked confident, but didn't quite get in the game.

01:26I think the move, the change, he was switched from playing in that Joel number eight

01:30to suddenly out on the right-hand side.

01:32And I think Newcastle didn't have any balls, so he drifted out of the game.

01:35But I was quite impressed.

01:37I thought it was good to see Nick Pope making saves.

01:40Yeah, Nick Pope, of course.

01:41Showing exactly how much Newcastle missed him last season.

01:45I think it was glaringly obvious that they need to get central defenders

01:50into the team.

01:51I think that was an area that really was shone a bit of light on today.

01:54Yeah.

01:55And of course, we've just heard the news of Calum Wilson as well,

01:59potentially missing, well, likely to miss the start of the season.

02:02So they definitely need a centre-forward too.

02:04Yeah, Eddie Howe said he expects Calum Wilson to miss the start of the season.

02:08Had a back operation on his back.

02:11Yeah, said he would hope he's back sort of early weeks of the season.

02:15But it's not an injury blow for Calum Wilson, so yeah.
