1950s animated Listerine TV commercial. A commercial highlighting BIG MOUTH busy bodies who spread rumors of HALITOSIS.

In 1879, Lawrence (one of the founders of Johnson & Johnson) created a new antiseptic for use in surgeries and for cleaning wounds. a little more than 40 years later, the sales took off when the talented people in the advertising world started creating a newly promoted MEDICAL problem, which was called - HALITOSIS!!!

Advertising people started to use the VERY OLD medical word, and the ad people made it sound like it was a medical condition that had to be cured. The ad agencies IMPLIED that the prescriptive remedy was Listerine.

Listerine’s sales were about $ 100,000 in 1921, and then jumped to $ 4 million in 1927 ($ 1.3 million to $ 57.5 million in today's dollars), Listerine became the third largest print advertiser in 1927.

Ad people can sell a refrigerator to an Eskimo!!!!
