00:0015 schools in Quezon City will not be able to start classes today due to the effects of typhoon Habagat and typhoon Carina.
00:12In Batasan Hills National High School, there is a return to school today.
00:17And for the situation there, we have the first news, James Agustin. James?
00:23Van, good morning. Students have arrived early here at Batasan Hills National High School for the start of the school year 2024-2025 today.
00:35It was past 5 a.m. when the flag-raising ceremony was held.
00:39According to the principal, Dr. Joseph Palisok, there are 15,890 enrollees this year, which is lower than 17,000 last year.
00:49They were not accepted as grade 11 students and were referred to nearby schools.
00:55Classrooms are still lacking, so blended learning is being implemented.
00:59Students are on-site for three days while online for two days.
01:03It's the same for grades 7 to 10 students.
01:06For grade 12 students, face-to-face classes are five days.
01:09Meanwhile, the Schools Division Superintendent of Quezon City said that 15 out of 158 schools will not be able to start classes today.
01:18Only 11 are serving as evacuation centers these days, so they will be able to start classes on August 1.
01:25Four were affected by flooding, so they will open on August 5.
01:29They will have Saturday classes to catch up.
01:36We are blended, so there are grade levels that are on-site.
01:42It's daily, there are on-site, and there are also groups that are on-line.
01:49So they are just talking.
01:52We have two schemes, so the students are on-site for three days, and online for two days.
02:00As directed by our regional office, they have to make up for the lost time.
02:06Because we could not afford any lost days.
02:09Because the school year was shortened, and the students will lose their day.
02:13It's really a big loss for them.
02:15So they will have Saturday classes, and their Saturday classes will have to be face-to-face.
02:26In Matala, Ivan, the morning shift is now ongoing from 6 a.m. until 12.20 p.m.
02:33The afternoon shift is from 1 p.m. until 7.20 p.m.
