Police officer who escaped attack appears at inquest

One of the surviving officers of a religiously motivated police shooting on Queensland's Western Downs has given evidence at inquest. The state coroner is probing the deaths of two constables, a local man and the three shooters, more than 18 months ago.

00:26He also attended the property on the day of the shooting and witnessed the two constables
00:31being fatally shot.
00:33Constable Kirk gave a first-hand account of what took place to the best of his recollection
00:37but at times he was unable to remember particular details.
00:41He recounted the moment he fled for his life after being shot at and was also quizzed about
00:46whether he could have done more to save Constable McCrow.
00:50The court has already heard four officers were sent to the Train's property for a routine
00:54job but on arrival they were ambushed by the shooters.
00:57They're accused of being religious extremists who carried out a targeted attack.
01:02Their beliefs are among many issues expected to be canvassed at the inquest over the next
01:07five weeks.
