00:00Texas is recognized. Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I'd now like to yield five minutes to the
00:04representative from Pennsylvania, Mr. Kelly, the sponsor of this resolution.
00:08Gentleman from Pennsylvania is recognized for five minutes. I thank my
00:11friend from Texas. Mr. Speaker, tonight I rise in support of my resolution, H. Rez.
00:171367, which would establish a task force on the attempted assassination of former
00:23President Donald J. Trump. First, I want to recognize and honor the life of a true
00:27hero, Corey Compratore, who was tragically killed shielding his family
00:32from gunfire during former President Trump's campaign rally in my hometown of
00:37Butler, Pennsylvania, on July the 13th. I also want to take a moment to offer our
00:42thoughts and prayers for two Pennsylvanians who were also injured
00:46during the shooting and continue to recover. Mr. David Dutch of New
00:49Kensington, Pennsylvania, and Mr. James Koppenheimer of Moone Township,
00:53Pennsylvania, and of course to former President Trump and his recovery. He
00:57showed incredible strength in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.
01:01First of all, Corey Compratore was a constituent of mine from Sarver,
01:04Pennsylvania. Corey graduated in 1992 from Freeport High School, went on to
01:09serve his country as a dedicated ten-year veteran of the United States
01:13Army Reserves. Corey's passion for his community and his Christian faith led
01:17him to serve as an active member at the Cabot Church and a member of the Buffalo
01:21Township Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as chief in the early
01:252000s. But above all, Corey was a loving husband and father. His obituary reads,
01:31the quintessential family man and the best girl dad. Together, his love
01:38for his wife, Helen, and his daughters, Allison and Kaylee Compratore, will carry
01:42on. We offer our thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of Corey
01:46Compratore. Mr. Speaker, on July 13th, 2004, the nation watched in horror as the
01:53gunman attempted to assassinate the Republican Party's nominee for president,
01:57former President Donald J. Trump. This day will go down in infamy in American
02:01history, but no more. So much of that, and then another place in my hometown of
02:06Butler, Pennsylvania, where it will always be remembered that the
02:10assassination of former President Donald Trump took place. Now, I've lived in
02:14Butler nearly my whole life. I went to high school there. My wife and I have
02:17raised our family there. I've coached Little League football and Little League
02:21baseball and our family businesses there. Now I'm fortunate enough to represent my
02:25town right here in the United States House of Representatives. I can tell you
02:29that my community is grieving. They are shocked by what happened in
02:34our backyard. The people of Butler and the people of the United States deserve
02:38answers. I'm proud to introduce this bill to establish a task force to get to the
02:43bottom of how this unthinkable tragedy could ever have occurred. This bipartisan
02:48task force will have investigative authority, including subpoena
02:52power, and to actually thoroughly analyze the circumstances
02:57surrounding the assassination attempt and ensure that these failures that
03:01occurred that day never happen again. I want to thank Speaker Johnson, Leader
03:04Scalise, Chairman Burgess, and our colleagues on the other side of the aisle
03:08for working with us to stand up this task force. When the American people lose
03:13faith and trust and confidence in their government, then the question is
03:17going to be, well, who's going to fix it? And the answer is we are. We are. In this
03:23house, we are the ones that are going to fix it. The American people deserve to
03:27know and we have the responsibility to find the answers for them. President
03:31Trump deserves answers. The Comperatore family deserves answers. And the American
03:35people deserve answers. Now I will not rest until we get these answers for all
03:41our constituents and all our fellow Americans. I urge my colleagues to
03:45support this bill and I yield back.
