00:00As we continue to monitor the complex and quickly changing situation, I want to
00:05take this opportunity to remind you about a few key points on crisis preparedness.
00:11If you haven't already, please enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, or STEP.
00:18You can enroll in the free program through our travel.state.gov website and U.S. Embassy Beirut's website.
00:26Once enrolled, you'll directly receive alerts and updates from the U.S. Embassy.
00:31We recommend U.S. citizens develop a crisis plan of action and leave before a crisis begins.
00:38Regularly scheduled commercial transportation is always the best option, while local communications
00:44and transportation infrastructure are intact and operating normally.
00:49Please make sure that your U.S. passports are valid for at least six months.
00:53If not, you should make an appointment to renew your U.S. passport through the U.S. Embassy website.
01:00Should commercial air not be available, individuals already in Lebanon should be prepared to shelter
01:06in place for long periods of time.
01:09And finally, if your relatives are planning to visit you in Lebanon this summer, please
01:13strongly encourage them to reconsider their travel, given the difficulties that would
01:18hinder departure should conflict increase in the region.
01:23Preparation is key to crisis preparedness, and I hope you will take a moment to follow
01:28up on these steps so that we can help you keep you and your family safe.
