00:00How many prizes will be awarded by the athletes who will compete in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics?
00:08Let's find out with Rafael Bandarell.
00:12Did you know that the prizes awarded by the athletes who will win the gold medal in the Paris Olympics are not equal?
00:24It depends on the country represented by the winner.
00:29The United States and Germany are among the countries with the lowest prize pool for the Olympic medalists.
00:37In America, the gold medalist received a prize of US$37,500 or equivalent to 2.1 million pesos.
00:47In Germany, it was US$21,900 or equivalent to 1.3 million pesos.
00:56It is obvious that it is low compared to the incentives given by Taiwan, Singapore, and Hong Kong
01:03to their athletes who will be able to compete in the upcoming Olympics.
01:07In Taiwan, the gold medalists received a prize of US$716,000 or equivalent to 41.9 million pesos.
01:18The Singapore prize is equivalent to US$700,037
01:24which is equivalent to US$43 million.
01:28The Hong Kong prize is the heaviest for their athletes
01:33because the cash incentives of their gold medalists are US$768,000 or equivalent to 45 million pesos.
01:44There are also countries that are simply grateful to the athletes
01:50because they do not share the cash incentives.
01:54These include Great Britain, New Zealand, Norway, and Sweden.
01:59In the Philippines, the gold medalists received a prize of US$10 million
02:03through the Republic Act 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act.
02:11Aside from that, the Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham Bambol Tolentino
02:16also promised that the athletes who will receive such medals in the Philippines will be able to receive them at home.
02:21But of course, donations from corporations and government offices are still out there.
02:28In the Tokyo Olympics in 2021,
02:31a total of 56.5 million pesos, 4 real estate properties,
02:37and a long-term free supply of gasoline and flights from private corporations
02:43were received by the country's first Olympic gold medalist, Heidelin Diaz-Naranjo.
02:49This medal is a continuation of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
02:53It is not only a symbol of glory or making history,
02:58it is also a proof of a more prosperous life for our athletes.
