00:00Coming up in today's Daily Business Briefing, Everee's recruitment plans,
00:03student living in Liverpool, MBOs and employee ownership trusts.
00:12Good morning, I'm Mary Thomas. I'm Daniel Zambartos. So Dan, what's the big story
00:17this morning? So the big story I've seen is in Liverpool. Plans have been approved
00:21by the Liverpool City Council for a new student accommodation which would house
00:25250 students in the Fabric District near London Road. Now when I was a student
00:29in Liverpool in the second year, I used to live near this area and you'd see a lot
00:33of arts and fashion students walking around shopping for materials for their
00:37designs. So it seems like quite a clever scheme to me. It's a very student
00:41friendly area. There's a Lidl and a Home Bargains for those with tighter budgets
00:45on the, you know, on your student budgets and it's about 10 to 15 minute walk from
00:49the uni and it's near the train station as well. So and the Home Bargains I just
00:53mentioned there will actually be incorporated into the wider development
00:56and the project is set to be delivered by Carrow Developments with support from
01:00TJ Morris. So warehouses are going to be demolished before construction begins
01:04and Neil Carlyle, who's Managing Director of Carrow, he said the site is a perfect
01:09location near the Knowledge Quarter and the scheme will provide 36 studios and
01:14214 one-bedroom units. So it's definitely a development to look out for.
01:18Interesting. The two stories I spotted this morning were both deals based news.
01:23So the first one was a management buyout at a Huddersfield based company called
01:27Interior Goods Direct and Green and Brown. So the former is probably better
01:31known to consumers as Blinds Direct, while the latter is a manufacturer of
01:35window coverings for both domestic and commercial users. The deal was structured
01:40by Centio Partners, who then also introduced the management team to Santander,
01:45who provided the debt funding. So expect more things from them. I know that
01:49they've been on quite an investment programme to date. The other Leeds story
01:54I saw today, so the first was Huddersfield, this one's staying in Yorkshire
01:58with Leeds, was a digital marketing agency called Engage Interactive.
02:02Now they've just undergone employee ownership trust, so they've moved the
02:07business into 100% employee ownership. The MD, Alex Wilcox, remains as Managing
02:13Director, but the business will now be rejoined by its co-founder, Dave Wrightson,
02:18who comes back out of retirement to become one of the trustees.
02:23So anything else that caught your eye?
02:26Well, staying in Leeds, Every, which is headquartered in Leeds,
02:29the delivery service, its roots can be traced back to Bradford in 1974,
02:34where they started as a gratin mail order. And the delivery service is launching a
02:39recruitment drive for 9,000 new employees. So they've gone from strength to strength
02:44since 1974. Those who use Vinted will be familiar with Every. It's a very popular
02:49service, and on a busy day, they can deliver up to 4 million parcels.
02:52And so especially with Halloween and Christmas coming up, people will be
02:56looking out for their costumes or presents. They'll be needing a lot more
03:01staff to cope with growing demand, so they're looking for 8,000 couriers
03:05alongside 1,000 roles in warehouse and other supporting roles.
03:09And is this just Christmas roles? Are these just temporary?
03:12They're permanent. They've probably been encouraged by growing demand
03:15that's coming up, but yeah, they're permanent roles.
03:17Right. That's a lot of people to bring on board.
03:20It is. It's very significant development there.
03:21Right. The other story that caught my eye this morning was from Wigan Institution,
03:26Uncle Joe's Mint Balls. So they've just secured their first major order to Vietnam.
03:31So you can read more about that on our website. You can also find a piece
03:35from our colleague, Jennifer O'Keefe. She took a deep dive into one of the new
03:40Chancellor's announcements yesterday about the scrapping of the Investment
03:44Opportunity Fund. So we are taking a look at what that means to businesses and
03:48whether anyone is going to miss that money. So you'll be able to read more
03:53about those and all the rest of our news on InsiderMedia.com and we'll be
03:56back tomorrow with the next daily business briefing.
