00:00Blame shall lie only on those who beg leave of you though they are rich.
00:05They have chosen to be numbered with the misbehaved and worthless people and Allah has set a seal
00:12upon their hearts so that they are not aware of their loss.
00:18These hypocrites will make false excuses to you when you return to them after the expedition
00:24to Tabuk.
00:25You should at that time say to them, make no excuses.
00:30We shall never believe you.
00:32Allah has already fully informed us of all the facts relating to you.
00:38Allah will henceforth watch your conduct and so will his messenger.
00:43Then at length you will be brought before him who knows the hidden as well as the manifest
00:49realities.
00:51He will then inform you fully about your deeds.
00:55When you go back to them they will certainly swear to you by Allah that they had a genuine
01:00excuse so that you may leave them alone without reproaching them.
01:06So leave them alone, surely they are altogether unclean and their resort is Jahanna, a deserving
01:14recompense for what they want to do.
01:18They will swear to you that you may be pleased with them.
01:22But even if you are pleased with them they should know that Allah will not be pleased
01:27with the disobedient people.
01:30The disbelievers among the Arabs of the desert are the most stubborn in disbelief and hypocrisy
01:36and the most prone not to know the limits of law which Allah has revealed to his messenger
01:43and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.
01:47And some of the Arabs of the desert regard whatever they spend in the cause of Allah
01:52as an undue fine and they wait for the calamities to befall you.
01:57On themselves shall fall an even worse calamity and Allah is all-hearing, all-knowing.
02:06And some of the Arabs of the desert are such as believe in Allah and the Last Day and regard
02:12whatever they spend in the cause of Allah as a means of bringing themselves close to
02:16Allah and of earning the blessings of the messenger.
02:20Listen, it is surely a means of bringing them close to him.
02:26Allah will certainly admit them to his mercy.
02:30Surely Allah is Great Protector, Ever Merciful.
02:35And as for the foremost in spiritual rank, outstripping others in faith and righteous
02:41actions, and the first to embrace Islam from among the immigrants, and the helpers, and
02:47those who follow their example in the best possible manner, Allah is well-pleased with
02:53them and they are well-pleased with him.
02:57He has provided for them gardens served with running streams to keep them green and flourishing.
03:04They will abide therein forever.
03:07That indeed is the most sublime achievement.
03:13Some of the Arabs of the desert living around you and some of the people of Medina also
03:18are hypocrites.
03:19They persist in and are habituated to hypocrisy.
03:24You know them not but we know them.
03:26We will punish them again and again in this life.
03:30Then they shall be made to revert to a greater punishment in the hereafter.
03:35And there are others among those who stayed behind who have confessed their faults.
03:41They have linked up one good deed with another which is bad.
03:45So their deeds are both good and bad.
03:49Allah is likely to turn to them with mercy.
03:52Verily Allah is Great Protector, Ever Merciful.
03:57Take a portion of their possessions as zakat so that you may thereby purify them of their
04:02evils and enhance them in their virtuous deeds and pray for them.
04:08Your prayer is indeed a source of solace for them.
04:11And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
04:16Do they not know that Allah is He who accepts repentance from His servants and accepts their
04:21alms and that Allah is He who is oft-returning with compassion, ever merciful?
04:28And say, Go on doing as you like.
04:32Allah will surely keep an eye on your deeds.
04:36And so will His Messenger and the believers.
04:39And you will surely be brought back to Him who knows the hidden and the manifest realities.
04:45Then He will tell you all that you have been doing.
04:48And there are yet others among those who stayed behind and whose case has been deferred
04:54and who are made to wait for the decree of Allah.
04:59Maybe He punishes them or maybe He turns to them with mercy.
05:04Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
05:09And there are among the hypocrites those who have built a mosque to cause harm to Islam
05:15and to promote disbelief and in order to cause discord among the believers and to provide
05:21a hiding place for him who had already made war against Allah and His Messenger.
05:28And they will certainly swear, saying, We meant nothing but good in building the mosque,
05:34but Allah bears witness that they are certainly liars.
05:39Prophet, never shall you stand in that mosque for prayer.
05:46Certainly the mosque which was founded upon piety and observance of duty from the very
05:50first day is more worthy that you stand for prayer therein.
05:55In this mosque there are men, performers of prayers, who love to become purified.
06:02And Allah loves those who purify themselves externally and internally.
06:08Is he who founded his edifice on taking Allah as a shield and on his good pleasure better
06:15or he who founded his edifice on the brink of a hollowed and crumbling water-torn bank
06:22so that it toppled along with him into the fire of Jahannam?
06:26And Allah guides not the wrongdoing people in the ways of success.
06:32This building of theirs which they have built will never cease to wrinkle in their hearts
06:37unless their hearts are torn to pieces with anguish and repentance.
06:41And Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.
06:46Allah has indeed purchased from the believers their persons and their possessions.
06:52Theirs in return is the heavenly garden.
06:54They fight in the cause of Allah, so they slay and are slain, an unfailing promise that
07:02he has made binding upon himself as mentioned in the Torah and the Evangel and the Quran.
07:10And who is more faithful and true to his covenant than Allah?
07:14Believers, rejoice over the bargain you have made with him and this indeed is a great achievement.
07:23These believers are those who turn to Allah in repentance, who worship him, who praise
07:30him, who fast, who bow down before him, who prostrate themselves in prayer, who enjoin
07:37what is right and forbid what is wrong, and who keep the limits set by Allah.
07:44Proclaim to such believers good tidings of untold gifts in the heavenly garden.
07:52It is not proper for the Prophet and those who believe that they should pray for protection
07:57for the polytheists, who have died without repentance, even if they be their near kinsmen,
08:04after it has become clear to them that they are the fellows of the flaming fire.
08:11And Abraham's praying for protection for his idolatrous sire was only because of a promise
08:17he had made to him, but when it became clear to him that he, his sire, was an enemy to
08:24Allah, he, Abraham, disassociated himself from him.
08:30Abraham was, as a matter of fact, soft of heart and forbearing.
08:36It is not for Allah to condemn a people as lost after he has guided them, unless he has
08:43made clear to them the things they ought to guard against.
08:47Surely Allah has full knowledge of everything.
08:52Surely it is Allah to whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth.
08:56He gives life and causes death.
08:59And you have, apart from Allah, no friend nor helper.
09:06Certainly Allah has turned with mercy to the Prophet and to the immigrants and the helpers
09:12who stood by him in the hour of distress, after the hearts of some of the people were
09:17about to swerve from their duty.
09:20And he turned to them with mercy.
09:22In fact, he is towards them most loving, ever merciful.
09:30And he also turned with mercy to the three companions of the Prophet, Ka'ab son of Malik,
09:36Hilal son of Umayyah, and Murara son of Rabi'ah, whose case was deferred for decree of Allah,
09:44until the earth for all its spaciousness became narrow for them, and their lives also became
09:52unbearable for them, and they were convinced that there was no refuge to escape the punishment
09:58from Allah save in him.
10:01Then he turned to them with mercy, that they might also turn with repentance to him.
10:07Surely it is Allah who is the Oft-Returning with compassion, the Ever-Merciful.
10:15O you who believe, keep your duty to Allah and be with the truthful.
10:21It was not proper for the people of Medina and for the Arabs of the desert who live around
10:27them to have stayed back from the messenger of Allah at the time of expedition to Tabuk,
10:34nor was it proper for them to have preferred their own lives to his.
10:38That is because they suffer no thirst, nor fatigue, nor hunger in Allah's way, nor do
10:45they make a journey which enrages the disbelievers, nor do they gain an advantage over an enemy,
10:53but a righteous deed is credited to their account in the record of deeds because of
10:57it.
10:59Surely Allah suffers not the reward of the doers of good to be lost, nor do they spend
11:05any sum, little or much, nor do they traverse a valley, but it is recorded to their account
11:13that Allah may award them the highest reward for their deeds.
11:19It is not possible for the believers to go forth from their homes learning for religious
11:25learning altogether.
11:27Then why should not a party from every section of them go forth, that they may learn and
11:31become well-versed in religion, and may warn their people when they return home to them,
11:37so that they too may guard against un-Islamic ways of life?
11:42O you who believe, fight such of the disbelievers as dwell near to you, and let them find firmness
11:49in you, and know that Allah is with those who become secure against evil.
11:57And whenever a surah is revealed, there are some of these hypocrites who say scornfully,
12:02which one of you has this chapter increased in faith?
12:07As for the disbelievers, it does certainly increase their faith, and they do rejoice.
12:14But as regards those in whose heart is a disease, it certainly adds more uncleanness to their
12:21previous uncleanness, and they die while they are still disbelievers.
12:28Do they not see that they are tried every year once or twice?
12:33Still they do not repent, nor would they take heed.
12:38And whenever a surah is revealed, these hypocrites look one at another as if to ask, Is anyone
12:45watching you?
12:47Then they turn away.
12:49Allah has turned away their hearts from the light, because they are a people devoid of
12:54understanding.
12:56People, certainly there has come to you a messenger from among yourselves.
13:02Your sufferings tell hard upon him.
13:05He is ardently desirous of your welfare, and he is very loving and merciful to the believers.
13:13But if they turn their backs upon you, say, Allah is sufficient for me.
13:18There is no other, cannot be, and will never be one worthy of worship but he.
13:24In him do I put my trust, and he is the Lord of the mighty throne.
13:32Yunus Jonah
13:37With the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful.
13:42Alif Lam Ra I am Allah, the All-Seeing.
13:49These are the verses of the perfect book, which is full of wisdom.
13:56Is this a matter of wonder for the people, that we have sent our revelation to a man
14:01from among themselves, saying, Warn the people against the evils of disbelief and sin, and
14:08give glad tidings to those who believe, that they stand on a strong and honorable footing
14:13with their Lord?
14:15The disbelievers say, Certainly this man is an evident enchanter.
14:21Verily your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six eons, and at
14:28the same time he is well established on the throne of authority.
14:34He regulates all affairs.
14:37As an intercessor, there can be none to intercede with him, save after his leave.
14:44Such is Allah, your Lord, so worship him.
14:48Will you not then mind?
14:51To him is the return of you all.
14:54This promise of Allah is certain to be true.
14:57He it is who originates the creation, then he reproduces it, so that he may justly reward
15:04those who believe and do deeds of righteousness.
15:08And those who disbelieve, they shall have a drink of boiling water and a grievous punishment
15:14because of their disbelieving.
15:17He it is who made the sun radiate brilliant light and the moon reflect a luster, and fixed
15:24for it each one of them, stages according to an estimated measure, that you might know
15:30the counting and number of the years and the reckoning of time.
15:35Allah created all this only to suit the requirements of truth and wisdom.
15:40He explains in detail the signs for a people who would know.
15:45Verily in the alternation of night and day, and in all that Allah has created in the heavens
15:52and the earth, there are sure signs for a people who guard against evil.
15:58Verily those who fear not the meeting with us, nor do they cherish a hope for the same,
16:06and are pleased to choose the life of this world, and feel contented therewith, and similarly
16:13those who are heedless of our signs.
16:16It is these indeed whose resort is the fire, because of their such deeds.
16:23As to those who believe and do deeds of righteousness, their Lord shall lead them, because of their
16:30faith, into gardens of bliss, served with running streams to keep them green and flourishing.
16:38Their prayer therein will be, Glory be to you, O Allah!
16:43And their greeting therein to each other shall be, Peace!
16:47And the conclusion of their prayer will be, All type of perfect and true praise belongs
16:52to Allah the Lord of the worlds.
16:56If Allah were to hasten on the evil for the people as a consequence of their evil actions,
17:03just as they would seek to hasten on for themselves the good, the end of their term
17:08of life would certainly have been brought upon them forthwith.
17:13But we leave alone those who fear not the meeting with us, nor do they cherish any hope
17:18for the same.
17:19They are wandering distractedly in their transgression.
17:24When a person is in a certain affliction, he calls on us, lying on his sides, or sitting
17:30or standing.
17:32But when we remove his affliction, he passes on with his face turned away, as if he had
17:38never called on us for the removal of the affliction that befell him.
17:43Thus it is that their base doings are made fair-seeming to these extravagant people.
17:49And we certainly destroyed several generations before you, when they went wrong in spite
17:55of the fact that there had come to them their messengers of God with clear proofs, but they
18:00would not believe.
18:02Just as we repaid them, so we repay all such guilty people with punishment.
18:10Then we made you inherit the land after these generations, that we might see how you would
18:15act.
18:17When our clear verses are recited to them, those who fear not the meeting with us, nor
18:23do they cherish any hope for the same, say, Bring a Koran other than this one, or at least
18:29make some changes in it.
18:32Say to them, It is not for me to introduce changes in it of my own accord.
18:38I follow nothing but what is revealed to me.
18:42Truly if I disobey my Lord, I fear the punishment of a great dreadful day.
18:48Say, Had Allah so willed that he should replace the teachings of the Koran with some other
18:55teachings, I should not have recited this Koran to you, nor would he have made it known
19:01to you.
19:02I had indeed lived among you a whole lifetime before this.
19:07Was not my truthfulness undisputed?
19:10Will you not then refrain from opposing me?
19:14Who is then more unjust than he who forges a lie in the name of Allah, or cries lies
19:21to his messages?
19:23It is but certain that the guilty shall never attain their goal.
19:29And some people worship, apart from Allah, things that can neither harm them of their
19:33own accord, nor can help them.
19:37They say, These are our intercessors with Allah.
19:42Say, Do you presume to inform Allah of the things of whose existence in the heavens or
19:48in the earth he does not know?
19:51Glory be to him, high be he exalted above the things they associate with him.
19:58And humankind were but a single nation.
20:02Then they fell into variance.
20:05Had it not been for a word, the postponement of their punishment, that preceded from your
20:12Lord as his promise, the issue wherein they disagreed would have long been decided between
20:19them.
20:20And they say, Why is not a decisive sign of destruction sent down to him from his Lord?
20:29Say then, The hidden reality will come to pass.
20:33The knowledge of it belongs to Allah alone.
20:37So wait for the time ordained.
20:40Surely I am with you among those who wait.
20:44Can we show mercy to people after adversity has visited them?
20:50They at once start scheming devices against our revelations.
20:55Say, Allah is quicker at scheming counter-devices.
21:00Indeed our messengers, the angels appointed for the purpose, are recording all that you
21:06devise.
21:09He it is who enables you to journey through the land and on the sea.
21:14When you are on these ships, and these means of transport with those on board sail with
21:19a fair breeze, while they are taking a joyful pride in them, a violent wind overtakes them.
21:27Wave after wave surges on them from every side, and they feel sure that they are caught
21:33in a disaster.
21:34Then they call upon Allah with a sincere faith in him, saying, If you deliver us from this
21:41calamity, we will certainly be of the thankful.
21:45Nevertheless, when he delivers them, behold, they begin to commit excesses in the land
21:53for no just reason.
21:55O people, your excesses will only recoil upon your own selves.
22:02Have a temporary enjoyment of the life of this world.
22:06Then to us shall be your return.
22:09And then we will tell you all that you have been doing.
22:13The life of this world is simply like water.
22:17We send it down from the clouds, so that the produce of the earth whereof people and cattle
22:22eat, grows with this water abundantly, until when the earth by means of it receives its
22:29excellent ornature, and has decked itself fairly beautiful, and its owners feel sure
22:35that they are its masters.
22:37Unexpectedly, we command its destruction either by night or by day, so we render it
22:44a field that is mown down as though nothing had existed there the day before.
22:50Thus do we explain in detail the signs for a people who reflect.
22:56Allah invites us all to the abode of peace, and he guides him who wishes to be guided
23:02to the exact right path leading to the goal.
23:07There shall be the fairest reward, and yet a good deal more of blessings for those who
23:12do good to others.
23:14Neither gloom of sorrow nor traces of ignominy shall overspread their faces.
23:21It is these who are the rightful owners of the paradise.
23:25There they shall abide forever.
23:28And as for those who knowingly committed evil deeds, they shall be punished in measure with
23:34the evil done, and ignominy shall cover them.
23:37They shall have none to protect them against the punishment of Allah, and they shall look
23:43as if their faces have been covered with patches of night with no light.
23:48It is these who are the fellows of the fire.
23:51They shall abide in it for long.
23:55And imagine the day when we shall muster all the people together.
24:00Then we shall say to those who associated partners with God, keep to your places in
24:05Jahannah, you and your associated partners with God.
24:10Then we shall separate them thoroughly one from another, and their associated partners
24:16with God will say to them, surely it was not us that you worshipped.
24:21So this day Allah suffices as a witness between us and you, we were surely quite ignorant
24:27of all that you worshipped.
24:30At that time every soul shall find explicitly that what it had done in the past, and they
24:37will be brought back before Allah, their true patron, and all that they used to forge shall
24:43be lost to them.
24:46Ask, who provides you sustenance from the heaven and the earth?
24:52Or who controls hearing and sight?
24:56And who brings forth the living out of the dead, and brings forth the dead out of the
25:01living?
25:02And who directs and regulates all the affairs of the universe?
25:07They will certainly say thereupon, it is Allah.
25:11Then say, will you not even then guard against evil doings?
25:18Such then is Allah, your true Lord.
25:21So what would you have after discarding the truth save prediction?
25:26Whither are you being turned away from the truth?
25:31Just as he is your true Lord, the verdict of your Lord shall be confirmed against those
25:37who rebel, because they do not believe.
25:41Say, is there any one of your associated partners with God, who starts the cycle of creation
25:49and then continues it?
25:51Say, it is Allah who starts the cycle of creation and then continues it.
25:57Whither then are you being deviated away from the truth?
26:02Ask, is there any of your associated partners with God, who leads to the truth?
26:08Say, it is Allah alone who leads to the truth.
26:13Is then he who leads to the truth more worthy to be followed, or he assumed to be God, that
26:21cannot find the way himself unless he be guided?
26:25What then is the matter with you?
26:27How do you judge?
26:30And most of them follow nothing but mere conjecture, whereas by no means can a conjecture do away
26:36with the need of the truth.
26:39The fact is, Allah is well aware of what they do.
26:44This Quran is not such as could have been devised by anyone besides Allah.
26:50On the contrary, Allah has revealed it as a confirmation of all the previous scriptures
26:57and is a clear and detailed explanation of the divine law.
27:01It is wanting and not, containing nothing doubtful, disturbing, harmful or destructive
27:08and there is no false charge in it.
27:11It proceeds from the Lord of the worlds.
27:15And yet they say, he has forged it.
27:19And produce a single chapter like it, calling upon whomsoever you can for your help, apart
27:25from Allah if you are truthful.
27:28Nay, the thing is that they have cried lies to that, the full knowledge of which they
27:35could not comprehend and whose true significance has not yet been explained to them.
27:41Their predecessors cried lies to the truth, just in the same manner.
27:46But behold how was the end of the wrongdoers.
27:50There are some who will believe in this Quran and there are others among them who will never
27:55believe therein and their Lord knows very well those who act wrongfully.
28:01If they still cry lies to you, say to them, I will reap the fruit of my actions, useful
28:07or harmful as it is, and you will reap the fruit of yours.
28:13You are not to blame for what I do, and I am not responsible to account for what you
28:19do.
28:21And some of them appear to give ear to you, can you make the deaf hear, even though they
28:27would not care to perceive?
28:30And some of them appear to look at you, but can you guide the blind, even though they
28:35would not care to see?
28:38Similarly Allah does no injustice to the people at all, but the people do injustice
28:44to themselves.
28:47And on the day when he shall gather them all together, they will feel as if they had not
28:52lived in this world, but for a fraction of a day.
28:56They will recognize the repentance of one another, losers indeed were those who denied
29:02the truth of the meeting with Allah and would not receive true guidance.
29:08And we shall show you, O Muhammad, the visitation on them of some of that punishment with which
29:14we have threatened these disbelievers, before we cause you to die.
29:20Anyhow they shall all have to return to us, moreover Allah is witness to all that they
29:27do.
29:29And for every nation there is a messenger, so when their messenger of God comes, the
29:35issue between them is judged with all fairness, and they are not done injustice to.
29:42And they say, Tell if you are truthful when this promise is to be fulfilled.
29:49Say, I have no power to hurt or to do good to myself.
29:54It shall happen as Allah will.
29:57There is a term appointed for every nation for the recompense of their actions.
30:02When their term comes, they cannot remain behind it a single moment to escape from it,
30:08nor can they get ahead of it to avoid it.
30:12Say, Tell me if this punishment overtakes you, unexpectedly, by night or by day, how
30:20can those who cut off their ties with Allah hasten away to escape from it?
30:26Do you not then believe in it, when this punishment has actually befallen you?
30:33It will be useless then, and you will be told, Now you believe, whereas you were keen on
30:39hastening it on before the appointed time.
30:43At that time it will be said to the wrongdoers, Suffer the abiding punishment.
30:48You are only repaid with punishment for those actions of yours that are deliberately committed.
30:56They inquire of you to inform them.
30:58Is this warning about punishment certain to be true?
31:03Say, Yes, by my Lord, it is most surely bound to be true.
31:09You cannot frustrate him in his purpose in order to avert it.
31:14And if every soul that has committed wrong had all the treasures of the earth, it would
31:20surely offer the whole of it to ransom itself therewith.
31:27And they will express their hidden remorse and repent when they see the punishment, but
31:32the matter will be judged between them equitably, and no injustice shall be done to them.
31:39Behold, whatever is in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah.
31:45Behold, surely Allah's promise is true, though most of them do not know this truth.
31:52It is He who gives life and causes death, and to Him you shall all be made to return.
32:01O people, there has come to you an exhortation to do away with your weaknesses from your
32:08Lord and a cure for whatever disease is in your hearts, and a book full of excellent
32:14guidance and a mercy and full of blessings to the believers in the ultimate form of the
32:19Qur'an.
32:21Say, All this, revelation of the Qur'an, is through the grace of Allah and His mercy.
32:29In this, therefore, let them rejoice, because this Qur'an is better than all that they hoard.
32:37Say, Have you considered that out of the provisions Allah has provided for you, you
32:43have classified by yourselves some as unlawful and some lawful?
32:48Say, Has Allah given you leave to do so, or do you forge lies in the name of Allah?
32:56What do those who forge lies in the name of Allah think of the Day of Resurrection?
33:02Surely Allah is gracious towards humankind, but most of them do not thank Him.
33:09And O Prophet, in whatever state you may be and whatever portion of the Qur'an you recite
33:16that is from Him, and O people, you do no work but we are watching over you when you
33:23are engrossed therein.
33:25There does not escape from your Lord even so much as an atom's weight in the earth or
33:30in the heavens.
33:32Neither is there anything smaller than that, nor greater, but it is recorded in a plain
33:38book of divine law and is governed thereby.
33:42Behold, the friends of Allah, neither fear shall overwhelm them, nor shall they ever
33:49remain in grief.
33:51It is those who believed and ever kept on guarding against evil.
33:57They shall have glad tidings in the present life and also in the hereafter.
34:03There is no changing the words of Allah.
34:06That indeed is the supreme achievement.
34:10And do not let their words grieve you, because all power belongs to Allah.
34:17He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
34:19Behold, surely to Allah belongs whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth.
34:29Those who call on gods other than Allah, as a matter of fact, do not follow their associated
34:35partners with Allah.
34:36They follow nothing but their own surmises, and they do nothing but conjecture.
34:43It is He who made for you the night, so that you may rest in it, and who made the day full
34:49of light, that you may work in it.
34:53Surely in this there are many signs for the people who would listen to the messages of
34:57God.
34:59Some of these people have gone so far as to say, Allah has taken to Him a son.
35:06Holy is He, He is self-sufficient.
35:09Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth belongs to Him.
35:14You have no authority for attributing this to Him.
35:17Do you attribute to Allah what you do not know yourselves?
35:22Say surely those who forge a lie in the name of Allah will never attain the goal.
35:29They will have some provision to enjoy in this world, then to us shall be their return.
35:35Then we shall make them suffer a terrible punishment, because of their hiding the truth,
35:41and because they continue to disbelieve.
35:46Relate to them some of the life events of Noah, because he also had said to his people,
35:52O my people, if my station with God, and my reminding you of your duty to God, through
36:00the messages of Allah is hard upon you.
36:04You should bear in mind that as for me, I put my trust in Allah, and on your part you
36:10should decide upon your course of action, mustering all your resources to gain success,
36:17and call your allies to your help.
36:20Then do not let your designs be vague to you.
36:24Then carry them out against me and give me no respite.
36:29But if you turn back, you will suffer for it.
36:33I have asked of you no reward for any of my services to you.
36:38My reward lies with Allah alone, and I have been commanded to be of those who fully resign
36:45themselves to Him.
36:47But still they cried lies to Him.
36:50So we saved Him and all those who were with Him in the ark, and we made them rulers while
36:57we drowned those who had cried lies to our messages.
37:02Behold then how evil was the end of those who had been warned beforehand.
37:08Then we sent after Him messengers to their respective people and they brought them clear
37:14proofs.
37:15But they would not believe in them, because they had already cried lies to them.
37:21In this way we seal the hearts of the transgressors, because of their own stubborn and unjustified
37:28refusal to listen.
37:31Then we sent after them Moses and Aaron with our signs to Pharaoh and his chiefs.
37:38But they behaved arrogantly, and they were a people who had cut off their ties with Allah.
37:45And when there came to them the truth from us, they said, This is of course enchantment
37:51creating dissension.
37:54Moses said, Is that how you talk of the truth when it has come to you?
37:59Can this be an enchantment, whereas the enchanters never attain their goal?
38:06They said, Have you come to us that you may turn us away from what we found our forefathers
38:12practicing and to make sure that you too reign supreme in the land?
38:18But remember we will not believe in either of you at all.
38:23And Pharaoh said to his people, Bring every skilled sorcerer to me.
38:28Now when the sorcerers came, Moses said to them, Present whatever you have to present.
38:36Then when they had presented what they would present, Moses said, What you have brought
38:42is a mere deception.
38:44Allah will soon render it void, because Allah does not at all allow the machination of the
38:50mischief-makers to thrive.
38:53And Allah will establish the truth by dint of his decrees, even though the guilty may
38:58find it hard.
39:00None, however, but a few youths from among his people accepted Moses, while others held
39:07back, for fear of Pharaoh and their chiefs, lest he should persecute them.
39:13And surely Pharaoh was ever a tyrant in the land, and truthfully he was of those who committed
39:19excesses and high-handedness.
39:23And Moses said, O my people, put your trust in Allah, if you have really believed in him
39:30and if you have really submitted to his will.
39:35Thereupon they said, In Allah alone do we put our trust.
39:39Our Lord, do not make us a target of persecution of the wrongdoing people, and deliver us by
39:47your mercy from the evil designs of the disbelieving people.
39:51And we spoke to Moses and his brother Aaron, saying, You both should prepare lodging for
39:57your people, bringing them together from different parts of the country, in the central town
40:02of Egypt, and make your houses so as to face one another and perform worship, and proclaim
40:09good tidings of success to the believers.
40:13And Moses said, Our Lord, you have given Pharaoh and his chiefs pomp and wealth in the present
40:20life with the result, our Lord, that they lead people astray from your path.
40:27Our Lord, destroy their wealth and attack their hearts, so that they believe not until
40:33they see the grievous punishment.
40:36The Lord said, The prayer of you both has been accepted, so remain you two steadfast
40:42and follow not the way of those who do not know.
40:47And we brought the children of Israel across the sea, and Pharaoh and his legion pursued
40:53them in wanton aggression, and for no justified cause, till when he was about to be drowned,
41:00he cried, I confess and believe that there is no one worthy of worship but he in whom
41:07the children of Israel has believed in, and I am of those who submit to him.
41:15The Lord said, What?
41:17Do you remember now while dying, whereas you had always disobeyed before this, and you
41:24had been of the miscreants?
41:27So on this day we will preserve you in your body only, that you may be a sign to learn
41:34a lesson from for the coming generations, though most of the people are quite heedless
41:39of our signs.
41:42And we assigned to the children of Israel an excellent place to settle, and we provided
41:48them with good and pure things, and they differed not among themselves until there had come
41:55to them true knowledge.
41:57Surely your Lord will on the day of resurrection settle the issue between them concerning which
42:03they differ now.
42:05And if you, O reader, are in doubt regarding that which we have revealed to you, ask those
42:11who have read this book, the Quran, before you.
42:15They will tell you that there has in fact come to you the perfect truth from your Lord.
42:21So be not of the contenders at all.
42:25And be not of those who cry lies to the messages of Allah, for then you shall be of the losers.
42:32Verily, those against whom the verdict of punishment of your Lord has been confirmed
42:38will not believe, till they see the grievous punishment, even though they have witnessed
42:43every kind of sign.
42:46Why was there no community other than the people of Jonah, who should have believed
42:51as a whole, so that their belief would have done them good?
42:55If it had been so, it would have been much better, for when they, the people of Jonah,
43:01believed, we spared them a humiliating punishment in the present life, and we gave them provision
43:07to avail themselves therefrom for a time.
43:11And if your Lord had enforced His will, those who are on the earth would have believed one
43:17and all.
43:19Would you then constrain the people to become believers, while Allah has not forced them
43:24to believe?
43:26Indeed, no one can believe save by the leave of Allah.
43:31Yet He will inflict His punishment on them who would not refrain from evil.
43:37Say, Behold the miracles which are happening in the heavens and the earth in support of
43:45the Prophet Muhammad, though it is true at the same time that signs and warnings are
43:50of no good to a people who do not believe.
43:55They only wait for the like of the calamities to be repeated, as were suffered by those
44:02who passed away before them.
44:04Say, Wait then, and I am with you among those who wait.
44:11Then when the punishment descends, we shall destroy the evildoers, but we shall save our
44:17messengers and those who believed.
44:21Thus does it always happen.
44:23We have made it binding upon ourselves to save the believers.
44:28Say, O you people, if you are in doubt regarding my creed, then be sure that I do not worship
44:37those whom you worship apart from Allah, but I worship Allah alone, who causes you to die.
44:44And I have been commanded that I should be of the believers.
44:49And I have also been commanded to convey to you God's message, devote your attention
44:54to the true faith in an upright manner, and be not of the polytheists.
45:00And do not call upon apart from Allah any other that can neither do good to you nor
45:06can harm you of his own, for if you do so you shall certainly be of the unjust.
45:13And if Allah afflicts you with harm, none can remove it but He, and if He desires any
45:19good for you, none can stop His bounty.
45:22He bestows it on whomsoever of His servants He wishes, and He is the great protector,
45:28the ever-merciful.
45:29Say, O you people, there has come to you the truth from your Lord, so whosoever follows
45:38guidance follows it only for the good of his own soul, and he who goes astray only goes
45:45astray against it.
45:48And I am not responsible for you.
45:51And follow that which is revealed to you, and patiently persevere till Allah gives His
45:57judgment, for He is the best of judges.
46:03Hud.
46:06With the name of Allah, the most gracious, the ever-merciful.
46:10Alif Lam Ra.
46:15I am Allah, the all-seeing.
46:18This is a book whose verses have been characterized by wisdom, and they have been explained in
46:23detail.
46:24It is from one all-wise, all-aware.
46:29Say, O Prophet, you worship none but Allah, and I am indeed to you a warner, warning you
46:36against the evil consequences of disbelief and evil-doings, and a bearer of good tidings
46:42to the righteous from Him, and that you seek the protection of your Lord against your faults,
46:50and then turn to Him in repentance.
46:52He will provide for you a goodly provision in this life till an appointed term, and He
46:59will grant of His abounding bounty to everyone possessed of abundant merit.
47:05And if you turn away, then surely I fear the punishment of a great day for you.
47:11To Allah is your return, and He is the possessor of full power to do all that He will.
47:19Behold!
47:21They fold up their bosoms, refusing to accept the truth with open minds, and in an effort
47:26that they may hide their enmity and hatred from Him.
47:30Behold!
47:32Even as they try to hide their true selves when they wrap themselves in their garments
47:37so that they might not see divine signs nor hear His messages, He knows what they conceal
47:42and what they reveal.
47:44He is well aware of what is in the depths of their hearts.
