00:30How are you everybody? I say hello from this warm day here in Paris with the action is going on so
00:48far. 26th sport of the 32 they debuted in this game. Today was besides being a very extremely
00:5834 Celsius degrees. The authorities they said you know there is a heat alert. They ask the
01:05athletics and tourists to be careful to drink a lot of water. But this is something I mean
01:13compares with the glory of some of the athletics who won medals. Today was a good day for Guatemala.
01:20Historic day was a good day from Mexico too. And Argentina in soccer just won 2-0 against Ukraine
01:29and it has a chance to play on Friday. But let's go to Eduardo. I don't want to make him wait
01:35because he's also on the street and I know how hot is over there. Eduardo how are you? Let's
01:44start talking about what just finished the game. Argentina won 2-0. We were scared about the
01:50team of Majorano. What's happened next? Hello Carlos. Indeed as you said very very hot. I might
01:59be sweating a little bit. It was around 37 degrees today in France in Paris. So it's a very hot day
02:07but we're here to talk about sports. You were asking me about Argentina. They made it. They
02:13suffered a little bit but they qualified second in their group. Most likely they're going to be
02:18facing France who's going to be playing later on. For that not to happen France has to lose by three
02:25goals against United States and a couple of other results must happen. But it's very very likely that
02:31Argentina will be playing France. France with a tie will secure the first spot even losing 1-0
02:372-0 will secure the first spot. So it's very very likely. Nothing is certain but I would say 99%
02:44likely that Argentina is going to be France in the second round which is going to be an epic match.
02:50Maybe it would have been a better match for the final just like in tennis with Djokovic and Nadal
02:54but very likely we're going to have that match on second round. We will be talking a little bit
02:59about BMX freestyle that a couple of our athletes were competing today. We have that story for you
03:06and we will be back whenever you need us Carlos.
03:12Thank you. Thank you Eduardo. Before I said 27 degrees I think I've been too long in the
03:17newsroom. Over there maybe it's 27. Outside here is 37 like you said. I'm sorry that was
03:24something I mean I got confused. Okay thank you. We'll be back with him in a second but first let's
03:31talk about this. Today was a good day from Mexico. This is a fantastic fantastic story.
03:36I don't know if you know her name is Prisca Agüite. Prisca Agüite she was born in London.
03:42Her father is from Kenya. The mother is Mexican and she wanted her to love the Latin roots. Today
03:49she competed for a gold medal. She didn't win but she got she's going to take back home Mexico
03:55a silver. That brings me to that story. I don't know if you know Humberto Mariles. Humberto
04:01Mariles was a military in Mexico. In the equestrian competition he said I can compete.
04:08The government said you know no you are working and you don't have a chance. Your horse is not
04:14in a good shape. He said let me do it. Let me do it. He did and he did fantastic in the Olympics
04:20at the beginning of the last century. He has an awful tragedy at the end of his
04:25life. Let's see his story. It's worth watching a little bit.
04:37The history of the Mexican Olympic began to shine thanks to Humberto Mariles. A Mexican military man
04:43and a rider who gave his country the glory of the first Olympic gold medal but also the dishonor of
04:50a champion turned criminal. Until London 1948 Mexico had only known silver and bronze in the
04:56Olympics but the military and rider Humberto Mariles a native of Chihuahua inaugurated days
05:02of glory for Mexican sports. Nothing prevented him from rolling in the Olympics not even a call
05:08from the then president of the republic Miguel Alemán to the man he should not attend because
05:14he could easily win with one eye horse. The president wanted to avoid international ridicule
05:20allured by the fame of Mariles always to try to assert his own will. In effect Arete Mariles
05:27Spolbekin did not compete on equal terms because of his lack of vision. However when he started
05:33and his rider pushed him no one could match him. Mariles has tried twice to the podium top at the
05:39same Olympic Games first in individual and then in team jumps. In addition he won bronze in the
05:46three-day event. More than a champion Mexican elites wanted to be like Mariles and began to
05:52finance his presentation abroad. The hero of the 48 participated in Helsinki in 1952 but he could
06:00not get on the podium again. The Olympic idol began to opaque his stella of deeds that no one had ever
06:07be able to match when in his role as a powerful and influential military man he built another
06:13legacy but one of violence and complicity between the military leadership and organized crime. In
06:201964 on returning home after a party Mariles murdered another driver in a fit of rage in
06:28the middle of the public street. Sentenced to 20 years in prison he reduced his sentence to
06:34eight years of which he served only four enjoying the privilege of an untouchable. Later in 1972 he
06:42was arrested in Paris for heroin possession although he denied the charges French authority
06:49assert that the Mexican general planned to introduce the drug through his influence.
06:54Mariles died that same year in the prison of La Santé before being tried for drug trafficking.
07:05That was a tragedy. One of the sports that debuted in Tokyo four years ago and is some people think
07:12is it's not a sport is street skateboard. We are going to talk to Charlie Montero about this later.
07:19Yesterday was some of the finals competition but let's go back to Eduardo. Eduardo okay we talk
07:26about soccer today football today was also a good day I was saying before for Guatemala and
07:34also for Mexico no. Exactly exactly and you were talking about the new sports like skateboard we
07:43we were on the route similar to to Charlie to follow BMX this new sport aimed at attracting
07:51a younger athletes younger audiences a sport that was introduced in Tokyo 2020 and we were
08:00following some of our own we've been chasing our athletes hoping that we will see some Latin
08:05American medals so we went today to Laconcourt park to witness BMX freestyle park there's a
08:13different types of BMX just so you know a brief history BMX it was invented in the 1970s in
08:19California in the United States where kids were playing in the street with their bicycles they
08:24went to into empty swimming pools they went to into skate parks and that's when the sport started
08:31it became olympic last olympics in Tokyo it became the first time this is the second time but it was
08:37the first time for two athletes that were competing there Colombia's Quinsarey Villegas a 21 year old
08:44from Colombia. Colombia has an interesting fact they have 87 athletes right here in Paris competing
08:51and we all know that Colombia is very strong in cycling especially in sprinting in the dome when
08:56they go around Colombia is very very good at that they're a powerhouse in that discipline but in BMX
09:02there's only one person and this person is Quinsarey Villegas 21 years old first olympics as
09:07we were saying she ended her heat this morning she finished in the fourth place first three of each
09:13heat moved to the second round that's a two heat so it's six people that move on directly and then
09:19the remaining three it becomes the you have to count all the scores and the top nine move along
09:26she finished seventh place so she moves to the final as well as another Latin athlete her name
09:33is Macarena Perez from Chile 27 years old she competed at the Pan American Games 2023 in
09:40Santiago and 2019 in Peru winning silver medals first time Chilean athlete wins in BMX so but
09:48so she's competing today she was competing today she's going to be competing tomorrow in the final
09:52both of them first time for her as well so a lot of expectations a lot of hope for what these two
09:59athletes might be doing tomorrow as we said the finals for the female side also later on the
10:05finals for the male side and there's two Latin American male players also competing Gustavo
10:10Batista from Brazil and Jose Torres from Argentina so four of our own four of Los Nuestros
10:17are going to be competing tomorrow hopefully for a gold medal of course we will be there
10:24we'll be covering all the sports volleyball is happening tennis a lot of tennis and of course
10:30Carlos I know you're very interested in football we're going to be following Argentina hopefully
10:35they can get it through the match against France as we said very likely it's going to be their
10:40opponent we will be back with you whenever we'll be here if you need us we we go back with you
10:46Carlos for now thank you Eduardo if that's happened Argentina France is going to be every
10:52match of the final in the world cup in Qatar so that is going to be something very interesting
10:58to watch thank you thank you very much Eduardo now let's talk about about the legends the
11:05athletics that make history in this sport Zulimar Rojas is from Venezuela triple jump
11:12is her specialty she won not only an olympics medal she won also titles in international
11:20competition all over the world as a matter of fact she is here in Paris but she cannot compete
11:28because she has a problem one of her legs that doesn't let participate
11:33on the game but let's see her stories really really amazing
11:38Zulimar Rojas holds all the records in the discipline of the triple jump Olympic record
11:48with 15 meters and 67 centimeters and a world record with 15.74 to give us an idea of her
11:59greatness the largest mammal of the planet the humbug whale measures around 16 meters in length
12:06with which Zulimar could jump from its head to the toe in three laps it will also be enough
12:14to imagine the common courage of a trained whose lungs she took over in three jumps
12:21it is one more feat of her people
12:23and somebody else who's going to make history in the olympics is going to be
12:38tonight in a few hours the finals of the gymnastic and simone miles the american
12:45prodigy that in tokyo she was doing great until she got hurt and she couldn't compete in the
12:51finals so that usa the favorite didn't go home with the gold medal like everybody was expecting
12:58but tonight she's competing it's going to be amazing let's see how she does tomorrow we have
13:03all the information about her another lady to pay attention the australian molly callaghan
13:10she won the gold 200 meter style freestyle one minute 53 seconds 27 that's amazing
13:18let's talk about when the games are not clean when the games are dirty when people try to cheat
13:25the first person who cheat or maybe the first person who became very popular
13:30is somebody from ukraine boris onishenko let's see his story from being one of the athletes when
13:38an impeccable track record boris onishenko became known as the most cheated athlete in the history
13:45of the olympic games born in ukraine in 1937 boris onishenko soon demonstrated his powers
13:53with the sword as an officer in the then soviet army at the munich 1972 games he achieved a team
14:00gold medal and an individual silver at the age of 38 onishenko arrived in montreal in 1976 as the
14:08big favorite in the modern pentathlon no one won't find it strange how easily he pounced points
14:15at the beginning of the fencing event however doubts soon appeared when the electronic marker
14:20was silently in touch without even having skimmed the adversary at first it was thought to be a
14:26failure of functioning but the turning from the british gene fox confirmed that the ukrainian
14:33never touched him when the light came on that gave him for defeated upon the complaint of the
14:38english delegation inspected onishenko's sword and discovered a sophisticated device in his handband
14:45under a coat of leather a button with a wire system allowed onishenko to press the marker
14:52sensors and indicate false recordings onishenko apology did not prevent him from being expelled
14:58from the olympics and his delegation members from rejecting such an act as a disgrace to an
15:04entire nation after leaving montreal he was expelled from the soviet army received a public
15:11reprimand from the then president of the ussr leonid brezhnev and a fine of 500 rubles he
15:18does pass into the most absolute shadow under the nickname of boris the cheat
15:24so
15:30that was a big time cheating here in paris 2024 the closest to cheating it was something happened
15:37to the female football team from canada they were spying the rivals with the drone the coy
15:46decided that they have to suspend the coach and they took six points of the canadian team let's
15:54see if they can go to the second round let's talk about new sport skate is one of those yesterday was
16:01the final they were a lot of people watching cheating at the athletics and charlie montero
