00:00with school out still out and many kids now have a lot of free time on their hands. So this morning
00:06our Allie Reed is live in Bucks County Pennsylvania with some advice on how to keep kids entertained
00:14and Allie's been keeping herself entertained earlier she went down the slide what's next.
00:21Yeah I'm grateful I didn't break my back in the process Ari through all of that but here in
00:26Pennsylvania actually most students don't go back to school until early September I think that's
00:32the for the most part that's what most students are dealing with here at least on the east coast
00:38New Jersey Pennsylvania and with that being said that means that there still is a good chunk of
00:43summer left and some parents might be sitting back and wondering okay what do we do with our kids now
00:48maybe that means coming to the playground or maybe that means coming up with a creative idea
00:53for indoors as well arts and crafts are a great activity for creativity cooking together is
01:00another fun activity that teaches valuable skills for these kids and taking your child to the
01:06library and letting them pick out a book can also help cure some summer boredom and keep their minds
01:11sharp over break many children may just want to use a phone or a tablet to pass the time
01:18but it is important to set limits for them you can use your screens for entertainment but I also
01:25think you should set limits ahead of time it's easier to say you get this much time
01:30than it is to stop kids when they're in the middle of something
01:36experts say it's important to lead by example when it comes to screen time usage
01:41and if the weather is nice like today encourage them to get outside
01:45outdoor play is essential for children activities like swimming hiking and biking are fantastic
01:51ideas they not only provide great exercise but also help kids connect with nature and if they're
01:57playing at a park it gives children a chance to be active and also allows them to socialize
02:02with others now above all else sometimes asking your child what ideas they may have
02:07might be a good idea too sometimes let's say sometimes Ari I'm curious what have you been
02:13up to the last couple of weeks I think I saw with your child did you go to the pool recently I feel
02:19like that's a good idea we've been to the pool we've been to a local lake we do lots of bubbles
02:25I like to be outside and he's just way happier outside but I know for a lot of parents the heat
02:30this summer has kind of been an issue because you may typically want to go to the playground but the
02:34equipment gets really hot so kind of working around some of those things and that pediatrician
02:38had excellent advice Allie
