00:56now Foley's come out as a southpaw he does switch hit it's the first southpaw that O'Leary's faced
01:02since he blew away Robin Zamora in 2022 but he's got Josh Taylor and Dennis McCann to work with
01:08in the gym so he should be okay Foley says that he feels disrespected
01:14he says that O'Leary's taken this fight too early and he intends to prove a point tonight
01:20O'Leary's dreaming of a world title fight so he just needs to keep this forward momentum
01:26yeah and it's a bit of a tricky one to work out you know he's boxing a southpaw here fairly wide
01:31stance um and already you can see that O'Leary because he's at this stage is just having a look

01:47making the attack with slow feet and a slow jab he'd be too far out so he knows he's got to close

04:47he's a little bit open he's got to bring him out of that shell but it's been it's been good
04:51accurate work for only to exploit those mistakes again and there and again foley makes 11 years

06:08the first round accurate powerful and there's still plenty of time here in the second round
06:14and pierce o'leary's looks sharp right from the opening foul he's looked sharp he's looked powerful
06:19like you said he's accurate and he's got his timing spot on tonight here as pierce o'leary
06:27he said foley seems to be a little bit more vulnerable when he's actually coming forward
06:34so you can't make that a mistake that back leg of his then just almost come around square because
06:38he's missed with the left hand and that brings the left leg round as you come square a couple
06:44more of them and o'leary will soon switch on to that
06:49foley's always been such a good survivor when he's been in crisis situations he's
06:53found a way through more often than not never been stopped he's felt the power though in this second

07:23head just slipping left stepping right counter punching on the front foot trying to draw the

07:36and all the time he's just edging closer closing the gap down flex to land the shot
07:41and all the time he's trying to draw the lead again walk on the inside couple of good
07:47bent arm shots that right difficult every punch he lands cheer to the rafters inside this arena
07:53there's the bell and that's a big round for pso leary
08:05let's have a look in here fletch here's that right to go through the
08:10guard as foley was coming forward it's a beauty richie isn't it absolute beauty look at that

08:18that brings about the count i think if you measured it it wouldn't have gone much further
08:24than six inches as he detonated onto the chin of darren foley i don't want to see overreaching

08:44i'm slightly struggling to understand the notion that was a great second round for darren foley

08:58cracking shot takes account so uh but i can see what he's doing there he's just uh trying to

09:11foley's been a good fighter for a long time he's lived in thailand as an estate agent he moved to
09:15australia where he started boxing again and his first 16 fights there having turned professional
09:21back in 2013 he lost a couple early but his three more recent defeats have been against good fighters
09:27aki menace brown tyrone mckenna in a war here in 2019 by the way and then last time out against
09:33there's no disgrace in losing to him now he's been in with quality opposition it's just that
09:39you know in this contest he's making the odd mistake and he's getting punished for it he's
09:44in against a solid competitor you know he's punishing him like i said but one of his mistakes
09:50foley brings his left leg through if he misses with the his left hand and then he becomes square
09:56and he becomes open
10:12solid shot from o'leary again all the solid work is coming from him
10:17the hurtful punches all coming from o'leary

10:41as you said let's toe-to-toe and have a real go with o'leary and had a bit of success there
10:46good foley wasn't too bad but i actually think that o'leary will um he'll prefer that type of
10:53contest seeing the opponent to stand hold his feet and trade i mean look at those for
10:59two quality shots right underneath the elbow dug into the rib cage of foley from o'leary
11:03lovely accurate foley work good combination as well she had right to the back of the hall
11:15finally remember flex he's never been stopped he's a toughie no doubt
11:19but he's going to be really tested here he's getting caught with big punches
11:24shake of the head from foley often doesn't tell the full story inside the
11:29final 30 seconds of the third another body shot went rattling into the ribs
11:38i think if foley wants to fight fire with fire which is really going to play into o'leary's hand
11:41absolutely you've got it spot on i think he's made some poor choices in this round of standing
11:47and trading the court early with a couple of good shots early on but look at that
11:52makes the mistake and gets caught with that body shot that was quality absolutely fantastic he
11:57blocked the first shot on the clubs and then replied straight away into the body great work
12:01great end to the round and a really good performance at this point from pierce o'leary

12:26swim his head swim around and then rip don't neglect the body lovely work here from o'leary
12:33look at him work the body then he whips her right uppercut through to the head foley is a tough guy
12:38there's no doubt about it but he's taking too much this is a mistake here his feet are far too square
12:43and then he gets caught with a couple of good body shots one the first one was the uppercut
12:47to the body it was a peach of a shot it really was and o'leary finishes the round very strong
12:52indeed a great round for him must say rich the last time we saw o'leary he had a really good
12:58test against the belgian havanes martin rossi and he eventually stopped him in the night prior to
13:02that he'd outboxed and outclassed kane gardner over 10 rounds at wembley but when we've seen
13:08him in the flesh this is as sharp and as good as he's looked to me yes he's looking really good
13:13tonight and i think that's mainly because he's got an opponent who's holding his feet in front of him
13:19quite clearly if you hold your feet against o'leary whether you're a southpaw or orthodox
13:24you're in for a hard night he's got good head movement he wants to get close and if you hold
13:29those feet you're allowing him to close that gap and produce shots like that i'll tell you what you
13:34hear them plug into the body you know how hurtful they must be and the shots to foley's body to this
13:40point have been superbly executed by o'leary no more of that please don't no more you're
13:51right okay don't need to do it yeah okay very clear lee every the referee
14:11he's got to hit and he's got to move and he's got to stay on the outside
14:15and make himself hard to hit foley
14:19by standing and holding his feet he's an easy target to hit
14:27yes o'leary looking like a man on a mission so far tonight when he does let his hands go
14:32dara foley's standing there like he's trying to stop the waves

14:44i think the way he's mixed up his attacks tonight so far richard been so outstanding
14:48mixing it to the head and body the uppercuts the shots behind the elbows
14:52brilliant variation of work from o'leary yes and working with that
14:57bobbing sort of style going forward left and right looking for the shots like getting up close
15:03you know he's working well tonight with pierce o'leary good shot by foley yes she's landed for
15:11a little while left hand o'leary would have felt that just a warning there just a reminder that
15:18foley's still in there yes indeed when he starts to let those uppercuts like that go
15:25he's so difficult to keep off because he starts at the head and eventually he's going to
15:29grapple right into your body well foley's got to keep that right hand
15:34in terms of his elbow tucked in because you can see the way o'leary's coming forward left and
15:40right bobbing and weaving and he's looking for that left hook to the body especially
15:49foley trapped in the corner solid work again from pierce o'leary 20 seconds to go in the fourth

17:04need to just be more switched on for defense because that's when you're in range a little

17:13as many positive thoughts as they possibly can between rounds but i mean he's going to realize
17:18just how difficult the job is and with the 10-8 round it's already a five-point lead at this stage

17:30round was a closer round i didn't think foley did enough to actually win it um early on in the
17:37first round when he was more elusive on the outside he was hard to hit and i think he's
17:42actually should have reverted back to that style he's tried to take o'leary on standing
17:46toe-to-toe and he's come off second best every time putting right hand from foley
17:54set the spray careering off the head of o'leary moments like that just give him a little bit more
18:00confidence he says that was lowly ever he says to keep them up to o'leary
18:08unfortunately for foley though fletch he just hasn't quite got that power
18:12to stop o'leary in his tracks and earn a bit of respect from him o'leary strong pressure fighter
18:20as he's coming forward looking at that mid-range section to land those bigger
18:24more powerful punches i think we have to give foley credit though fletch because he's a tough
18:29guy yeah he has he recovered well from being on the canvas in the second from that uppercut that
18:34would have finished other fighters 10 stoppages for foley in the 22 wins that he's had five defeats
18:45hoping there's still some magical moments left in his career despite being in there at 35 but
18:52some of these shots from o'leary some of the mistakes as well from foley the way i actually
18:58think now the more the more i look at foley he might be a converted southpaw because he's thrown
19:03that left hand so many times where his left leg comes around and that's just a natural instinct
19:09to go back to the orthodox position basically so i don't think he's an absolute natural southpaw
19:14he throws the left hand too many times and misses the left leg comes round to look the more natural
19:19position look look at how square he is now that's a clear sign of an author that's fighting
19:24this turns out to be fifth round scheduled for 10 o'leary defending his wbc international super
19:31lightweight belt in there dreaming of bigger nights and bigger days down the road
19:37and he's done most things right in there to this point
19:41all doubling battle
19:56full observation would be o'leary looks as though he can fight at this pace
20:00for the full 10 rounds i'm not necessarily certain that foley can yeah he's quite right

21:22today he's listened to i thought that was a quieter round and could have even gone foley's way
21:30so i think only he's got to pick it up a little bit more
21:33and uh get back to what he was doing earlier on in the contest plenty of pressure closing the gap
21:38moving the head and then working the switch in the attack from body sorry head to body
21:44this is foley's first fight for more than a year prior to the jack cattle loss he'd stopped robbie
21:49davis jr in three rounds in liverpool took that fight at three weeks notice in terms of experience
21:55foley they've had the 22 fights before o'leary turned pro and he said in the build-up that he's
22:04been boxing things up he's not quite that severe but there is a big gap in terms of experience
22:10and age between the two of them i think one thing that is in foley's favor he's not being caught
22:17clean by o'leary for the last couple of rounds no and what is in his favor he's a tough guy
22:23and he's taking some good shots at the start of this round he's reverting back to that style of
22:27on the outside kicking away with the jab so he's made himself more more harder to hit it's when he
22:34holds his feet and trades with o'leary that's when o'leary certainly does the better work on the inside
22:41i think he's got a hit and he's got to move for me foley look he's gone say he's done orthodox
22:46no no square his feet have gone no like i said i think he was probably
22:52an orthodox fighter to start with has to get off the ropes you don't want to be there against o'leary
23:00again fetch it comes down to decision making
23:03hit and move foley that's what he's got to concentrate on maintaining the gap
23:08standing and trading he's coming off second best
23:10excellent combination
23:22short right hand as well just stopped foley in his tracks as he tried to come forward

23:34first half's been dominated by pierce o'leary
23:43simple jab again from o'leary just to measure the distance the bigger shots followed
23:49just gets back to his boxing that's a lot of success richie with those little short hooks
23:56and uppercuts doesn't he o'leary and in between they just throw out that jab but see what a shot
24:02that was to the body but that's come as a counter so it's foley that's missed the target with his
24:07own punch and now o'leary really on the front he's feeling these foley the legs wobble down
24:13he's in trouble lieber is looking foley has to find something here beckons o'leary in
24:19he'll carry on punching there's no doubts about that body shot
24:25o'leary moving to the side drills the left hand into the body foley strong brave says come on
24:31bring it on o'leary looking for the finish but he might run out of time and there's the belt
24:37but that was such a strong edge of the round for o'leary that was sensational wasn't it
24:42from o'leary tremendous what a tough guy this fella is foley incredible
24:51look at this fledge what a left up that is that really starts the ball rolling i don't think he
24:55really recovered from this shot here that's a belting shot that really is so he sits back
25:01then he sits on the ropes he gets caught with a couple more here foley o'leary looking for
25:06the shots which is downstairs there's that right hook then he switches back upstairs with the right
25:12hand to the body but foley just buys a few seconds says well come on let's have it then
25:17and that just gives him a that's experience for you again do that for me a bit more fantastic
25:32there was also a little moment towards the end of the round where the legs
25:35of foley certainly stiffened as well didn't they rich after one of those punches
25:39and that's when he actually egged him on didn't he egged o'leary on
25:44out of the shot
26:00so out they come for the seven scheduled for ten excellent finish around six for pso leary
26:13the best the powers of recovery shown by dara foley tonight the phoenix emperor just when you
26:21think the crisis is going to be too much he finds a way to find that little bit more and come out
26:26the other side no question took some big shots body and head last round especially as you say
26:39just wobbled a little bit he got through it yeah he's a tough man indeed
26:48carried out the instructions of joe mcnally to the letter in the previous round because
26:52he wanted him to just step to the side and then launch attacks from there
26:55he had a great deal of success by doing it didn't he

27:25when it lands you almost fancy grimacing at the same time because you know that
27:30that must be hurting
27:33he's been fairly well scored you can see foley a lot of the time you can hold the center of the
27:39ring you'll move around pso leary but his problem is then he's got to watch out for the hook to the
27:44body so if he does move around to his right he's got to keep that right elbow tucked down because
27:50o'leary's looking for that left hook to the body especially when they get close like this it's a
27:55real problem for foley those hooks and uppercuts then start to land and the body's so much easier
28:00to find when they're in close final minute of the seventh and a big mistake he keeps making
28:07his feet keep crossing his feet are all over the place and time and again he comes square on
28:13to pierce only you can't afford to do that i'll go back to a point you made really early in the
28:20fight rich as well but he's not really got the power of daryl foley to make o'leary go backwards
28:24at any time i think he's a stiff tincture but he's certainly he's not a devastating
28:31tincture o'leary there's a bit of zip a real bit of power in his work that hurts opponents
28:54so let's have a listen into daryl foley's corner
29:14the big ones will come off but you have to start here straight straight straight as soon as you
29:18throw straights and stabs he comes up like while you're looking for swings he's going underneath
29:23stab stab keep walking up walking up stop stop
29:28exchange slide up on him keep him uncomfortable keep him uncomfortable if not he's boxing straight

29:42i think what he's getting there is to keep those punches straight because then he's probably got
29:56less chance of getting caught if he is keeping them straight but i've got pierce o'leary i mean
30:01well ahead yeah i'm gonna give foley one round so three to go i just wonder whether that might
30:07have been an opportune time to say to daryl foley look you need something big here because
30:11the reality is you're probably way behind i mean they did concentrate more on tactics
30:16than any kind of motivational speech but the reality is he's got to do something special from
30:20here he has got to do something special must be very difficult for him that's better for him
30:30and listening to his coach there keeping the punches nice and straight and that's a good right
30:34hand as an orthodox boxer there flipped the way through that really gritting his teeth and dug
30:39deep there foley and had his best little flurry of shots for quite some time
30:47so his coach might have had something there about keeping the punches straight
30:51maintaining the gap it makes it more difficult for o'leary to land the shots
30:55but up close and mid-range there's only one man in it
31:10so
31:33in the eighth

31:55yeah wants to watch it here only in case there's a clash of heads
31:59just needs to maintain that gap to use the jab a little bit better
32:03and again very persistent foley here keeps coming forward this is special for a while
32:09and he's making it really awkward and in these exchanges fletch

32:25that's what that's what only we've got to do now just use that jab and take off a step back to
32:29create a bit of space it's foley that's getting up close and making it all awkward for him
32:40body shot looks around the corner from o'leary inside the final 15 seconds of the eighth round

32:53just had him wobbling it sucks

34:54still in there and fighting his testament to his character his resilience his bravery

39:01of the final round here for pierce o'leary who's been nice and accurate power still in the shots
39:11this has been a career best performance by him tonight
39:24as well as taking those shots and then pressing forward again keep switching their orthodox to

39:38like you said that she prefers the toe-to-toe battle
