00:00This is a newly refreshed 2024 Model 3 performance that costs 55k new and this is a
00:072020 Model 3 long-range that goes for around 25k used
00:11I've driven both and I think Tesla's made a generational leap with the 2024
00:15But is it worth double the price over buying an older model? I'll leave that for you to decide
00:20Let's take a quick look at the progress Tesla's made over four years and also go over what they didn't change that
00:26I think they should have
00:27Starting with the front they most notably changed the profile of the headlights
00:31So instead of looking like an angry frog, it looks more like a modern car
00:36They haven't changed the sides much over the years
00:38But this 2020 version has chrome plastic trim whereas the new ones are blacked out
00:42Which I prefer. The 2024 Model 3 performance probably has the best aero covers Tesla has designed so far
00:49But you could also remove them at the cost of around 10 miles of range
00:52The non-performance versions have an option to get these alloy wheels that haven't really changed much over time
00:58The rear has big changes as well. The older version has the T Tesla logo
01:03Whereas the new one has the letter spelled out. I actually prefer the older one
01:07I think it looks a little cleaner and the older versions brake lights are in two pieces
01:12So when you lift up the trunk, it splits the light in half
01:15The new one is more angular and is all in one piece
01:18So it all lifts up in one go when you open the trunk
01:20I think the new one looks a lot cleaner
01:22The diffuser was basically non-existent on the older Model 3 and on the newer ones
01:27They added a more prominent diffuser on all the versions, but there's a massive hidden change with the 2024 Model 3 performance
01:34The 2023s and earlier had a completely flat bottom even the performance version
01:40But the 2024 performance is packing some hidden changes underneath
01:44They added what looked to be Venturi tunnels and fins that help with stability at high speeds and
01:49Potentially generates a little more ground effect with faster moving air going underneath creating lower pressure
01:55I'm sitting here in the old Model 3 performance long-range and I'll tell you sitting here has made me appreciate how far
02:02Tesla has come with their build quality. The side panels are totally different
02:07This material is different here
02:09You can hear how hollow it sounds
02:14It just feels like it has a lot of give and
02:17Pushes in very easily
02:20They've done an excellent job on the new ones. Those feel rock solid
02:26Everything's just far more solid
02:28Makes a solid thumb
02:31No rattling
02:33You see more piano black plastic here
02:37These window rockers feel really cheap they have a creaking
02:44This
02:51One is not really in that great of a place
02:53It's just kind of wedged between the door very small change, but they've improved where this sits
02:57So you can much better press with your thumb on the new versions and you're probably thinking
03:03Oh, he's just comparing a Tesla against the Tesla
03:05well
03:06I have tried other cars including this Polestar 2 and I made a video comparing it against the Model 3 and
03:12Basically the build quality in the Model 3 is just as good as that of the Polestar
03:16They've greatly improved how the grips feel when you put your hands right there these ones
03:23They don't contour to the hand very well, at least not after I've tried the new ones
03:27The back doesn't have much like contouring or shape to it
03:31So the new Model 3s are much better in terms of feel also the material is different
03:36this one is kind of their old version of the pleather and
03:40It feels fine, but it's a little rubbery
03:43You know, it doesn't feel like real leather and I've really come to appreciate the center consoles on the new 2024s
03:49These ones have the old piano black
03:51plastic
03:54Sounds very cheap and I don't know who designed this but you have to open this by pushing it in like this and your hand
04:00Just scratches against the plastic. It's not even that smooth
04:03It's kind of hard to close
04:09The
04:16Glove box is bigger. I
04:19Prefer the closing system of the new ones, but this one has way more space than the newer version. I
04:25Will say the seats they are much softer on this than at least my 2024 Model 3 performance
04:31They do feel more comfortable on a longer road trip
04:34But they don't have the big old side bolstering on my new Model 3 performance, which really has helped me on the racetrack and
04:42during some Canyon driving
04:55And
04:57Finally, let's go over some things. I hope Tesla improves the battery is one of the biggest things for me
05:02They haven't really changed the range much of these cars over the past few years
05:06The battery technology has pretty much stayed the same and hopefully they add some of the crazy new LFP batteries coming out of China
05:12The company CATL those are promising some pretty crazy range and fast charging and they really need to fix their turn signal buttons
05:20I've encountered these buttons sticking so I literally can't press them when I'm driving and a bunch of other people have reported the same as
05:27Actually got these service recently and we'll put out a video about that soon and Tesla just add a heads-up display to this car
05:33There are so many car companies out there that are doing cool integrations with their heads-up displays and even just a little speed
05:40Hologram or something like that on this car would make it way better
05:43But in summary Tesla's come a long way and is producing some of the most competitive cars on the market
