Paris Olympics 2024: a look at what’s to come on day 5

The 2024 Paris Games sees a busy start to day five as both the women’s and delayed men’s triathlons kick off the action as organisers gave the River Seine the go-ahead to swim in. Team GB’s Beth Potter is the favourite for the women’s race before Alex Yee will be gunning to go one better than the silver individual medal he won in Tokyo three years ago.

00:00Good morning from Paris where the early news is the triathlons going to go ahead.
00:05There was a lot of doubt over it and the men's race got delayed by 24 hours because of the
00:10water quality in the River Seine and sewage and E.coli levels too high and not safe to
00:15swim but they tested it in the early hours of this morning it's good to go.
00:18So we'll have the women's race going first, British perspective, Beth Potts is the world
00:23champion in that so she's got a great chance and also Georgia Taylor-Brown who was a silver
00:26medalist in Tokyo at the last Olympics.
00:28Then in the men's which follows almost straight after Alex Yee goes for GB so that's the first
00:34sort of medal chances of the day but there's plenty of other options from a Team GB perspective.
00:40There's the rowing where the women's quadruple sculls are the world champions so hot favourites
00:44for a gold there and the men's were second in the world so they'll be in the mix you'd
00:48imagine.
00:49Andreas Bendelini-Syriacs goes with Lewis Tolson in the 10 metre synchro platform diving.
00:56Number two in the world behind the Chinese who have been dominating the competition.
01:00Kieran Riley performed very, very well in the BMX qualifiers yesterday, he goes in that.
01:07So actually a busy day on the medal front but from a GB perspective and also in the
01:11canoeing there's Mallory Franklin as well so it could be something a bit akin to Monday,
01:15magical Monday, wacky Wednesday, who knows, we'll wait and see.
