00:00Climate scientists at Oxford University say a new state-of-the-art weather map
00:07may help better predict extreme weather events with more accuracy. Shelby Wilder reports.
00:14For the first time, researchers have demonstrated how advanced weather forecasts
00:18can predict the impact of human activity on major weather events. An analysis of weather
00:25in the United States and the United Kingdom indicated that global warming, driven by human
00:30activity, has intensified severe weather events and increased their likelihood. Climate scientists
00:36at Oxford University have successfully demonstrated the influence of greenhouse
00:41gas emissions on extreme weather through state-of-the-art forecasting models.
00:46The first time we're able to provide estimates of the role of human influence in extreme weather
00:52events that are as reliable using the same reliable tools that we use to forecast the
01:00weather every day. And that's an enormous step forward because we need these estimates to be
01:07reliable because people are making billion-dollar decisions on the back of them. So understanding
01:13not the details of exactly what day in the year that a heat wave might occur in 2049,
01:20but how the risk of a heat wave such as this one is increasing over time. This groundbreaking
01:27discovery marks a significant advancement in understanding weather patterns and improving
01:32predictions. For EarthX, I'm Shelby Wilder.
