Which actors should bring the beloved Quinlan Vos and more to life in the galaxy far, far away?
Transcript
00:00With the great Rosario Dawson and Lars Mikkelsen already proving that dream castings can become
00:06a reality in this universe, it's time to look at a number of other actors who must follow them into
00:11the galaxy far, far away in the not-too-distant future. Gareth here from WhatCulture Star Wars
00:17and here are 8 Dream Star Wars Castings That Need To Happen.
00:228. Jason Momoa – Quinlan Vos In terms of charming,
00:26badass human beings with long, luscious locks who look awesome swinging a weapon around a movie or
00:32TV set, is there anyone better working today than the mighty Momoa? The short answer is of course
00:38not. And that's what makes the Game of Thrones and Aquaman star such a perfect fit for the maverick
00:43Jedi Master known as Quinlan Vos. Despite only briefly appearing in the background during the
00:48Phantom Menace and showing up a few times in the likes of the Clone Wars animated series and the
00:53Odd Novel, Vos has become something of a cult favourite amongst the Star Wars fandom, with folks
00:58gravitating towards his wisecracking personality and fondness for doing things his own unique way
01:03in the field. These sound like the sort of characteristics Momoa exudes in just about
01:08every character he brings to life on the big and small screen. And who wouldn't want to see this
01:13effortlessly cool soul strutting around with some yellow tattoos and swinging around a green
01:18lightsaber in an upcoming live action project. But I've a question for you, who is your favourite
01:23Jedi Master? Well let me know in the comments section right down below.
01:277. Paul Giamatti, Hondo Onaka Trying to find an actor to step into the role
01:33of a character who possesses the ability to charm you one minute and leave you cursing the day you
01:37ever met them the next is no mean feat. But in the supremely diverse Paul Giamatti you unquestionably
01:43have that man, and the actor perfectly suited to playing the part of Wee Kway pirate legend
01:48Hondo Onaka. Despite not appearing on the live action stage yet, this quick thinking space pirate
01:54has already endeared himself to the masses through his always entertaining attempts to come home with
01:59a massive score and remarkable ability to routinely find himself at the centre of a perilous situation.
02:05What is he like? When the time comes to finally give the clone wars and rebels figure said live
02:09action treatment, few actors feel as well suited to the part of a despicable criminal with a heart
02:14of gold than a Giamatti having the time of his life chewing the space scenery. It's a match made
02:19in heaven, and with Hondo still being alive during the age of the New Republic and even during the
02:24time of the sequel trilogy, the always captivating star of everything from Billions to Jungle Cruise
02:29could realistically don the Wee Kway prosthetics and talk his way in and out of trouble in more
02:34than a few upcoming Lucasfilm projects. 6. Benedict Cumberbatch
02:39A Sith Lord A few years back a great many Star Wars
02:43lovers were actually intrigued by the idea of Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch,
02:47playing none other than Grand Admiral Thrawn at some point. But with the Oscar nominated Brit
02:52ultimately turning down the idea of being covered in blue paint, and Lars Mikkelsen eventually
02:57returning to the role from Ahsoka onwards, Cumberbatch is now free to pursue other antagonistic
03:02parts within this volatile galaxy. Watching the mesmerising thespian possibly don a black coke
03:07and red lightsaber as he looks to take down Rey's new Jedi order in the upcoming sequel trilogy
03:13follow up flick would undoubtedly be a blast. But away from stepping into the role of a brand
03:18new dark side practitioner, perhaps Cumberbatch could even bring to life a younger Dooku at some
03:23point, exploring the infamous figure's life during the time before he became Palpatine's
03:27apprentice. Either way, Cumberbatch's natural gravitas, menace and ability to convey inner
03:32turmoil, make him a perfect fit for a Sith Lord or fallen Jedi at some stage in the future. So
03:38here's hoping he's given the chance to add Force Lightning to the list of things seen shooting out
03:42of his hands on screen in the coming years. 5. Sebastian Stan – Luke Skywalker
03:48This one is about as straightforward as it gets. Why should Sebastian Stan be handed the keys to
03:53Luke Skywalker's X-Wing for all subsequent live-action appearances said iconic Jedi Master
03:59because he is the absolute spitting image of the legendary Mark Hamill. And with the long-time Luke
04:04Skywalker actor himself even noting recently how he would be happy if Lucasfilm were to recast the
04:09role going forward for stories involving the character post-Return of the Jedi, handing the
04:13green lightsaber over to Stan the man makes all the sense in the world. Sure, the de-aging technology
04:19used in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett was fine, but surely it's cheaper, simpler and just
04:25generally less jarring, to have an equally talented lad take up the Luke mantle without
04:29slapping a digital Hamill face on them. The Bookie Barnes star has also left the door open for
04:34Lucasfilm to cast him as the most famous Jedi of all time, telling Esquire just last year that you
04:39can never say never when it comes to him taking over from Hamill in the role. The deepfake
04:43experiment was cute, Lucasfilm. Now quit messing around and give that man a cloak.
04:484. Wyatt Russell – Alexander Kallus Another celebrated Rebels character folks have been
04:54angling to see given the live-action treatment for what feels like forever, one-time Imperial
04:58Security Bureau agent Alexander Kallus feels like the sort of personality Taylor made to
05:03show up in something like the second season of Andor. Over the course of the animated Rebels
05:08series, the conflicted Kallus becomes disenchanted with the Empire before eventually transitioning
05:13into the role of Rebel spy, and with the initially cold but gloriously arrogant Thorn in the Phoenix
05:18Squadron's side surviving the events of Rebels and continuing on as undercover agent Fulcrum
05:23in the time post-liberation of Lothal, there's a strong possibility he could finally make his
05:28presence known in live-action during Andor season 2. Possessing the unmistakable blonde wavy locks
05:33and beard, along with the sort of one-time despicable antagonist determined to make up
05:38for the mistakes of their past energy that has established the redeemed soul as a cherished
05:42Star Wars figure, the Falcon and the Winter Soldier's US agent Wyatt Russell seems like a
05:47clear first choice for Kallus. So if he does appear as one of the incoming surprising cameos Tony
05:52Gilroy has hinted at in the lead-up to season 2, here's hoping it's Kallus' lookalike Russell who
05:57pops up on Yavin 4 alongside the likes of Mon Mothma and co.
06:013. Anya Taylor-Joy – Asajj Ventress In another universe, Asajj Ventress would
06:06have made her live-action debut all the way back in 2002, with the menacing Darkseid
06:11Practitioner's original design being created as a potential female villain during the development
06:16of Attack of the Clones. Fast forward two decades though, and fans are still yet to be treated to
06:21the mesmerising sight of the Night's Sister wielding her two red lightsabers on the big or
06:26small screen in live-action. With Lucasfilm showing a willingness to dive back into the odd
06:31moment during the time before Order 66 changed the galaxy forever in recent years however,
06:36the chances of the fierce assassin-turned-eventual-Jedi ally showing up in live-action are
06:40now stronger than ever. And seeing someone with the acting chops of the Northman and Split's Anya
06:45Taylor-Joy step into such a highly physical and layered character would surely make Ventress'
06:50long-awaited debut outside of the animated sphere feel even more special. Whether in brief cameo
06:55form or even as a repeated flashback presence in the likes of Ahsoka or The Mandalorian,
07:00a thespian as spellbinding as Taylor-Joy getting the chance to go full Night's Sister would be a
07:05dream come true. 2. Sam Witwer – Maul
07:09While he may have technically made something of a live-action debut as the character already,
07:14the magnificent Sam Witwer still hasn't ever been given the opportunity to physically portray
07:18the captivating Maul on screen. Sure, his distinct voice definitely made a hell of an impact in that
07:23aforementioned Solo A Star Wars Story cameo, but who out there wouldn't love seeing the Clone Wars
07:29and Rebels voice actor getting to properly flex his Sith muscles in live-action as Maul?
07:34And with Maul playing a significant role in the lives of characters like Ahsoka Tano,
07:38Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ezra Bridger, all of which have found a way into the live-action TV corner
07:43of the galaxy far, far away in recent times, it does feel like just a matter of time before this
07:48cult favourite wanders back into the mix via flashback, or maybe even as a more substantial
07:52supporting player. Should that comeback become a reality, then, Witwer finally getting a shot
07:57at adding some physical flavour to his epic performance as the Dathomirian would be both
08:02a bold and satisfying call. 1. Cate Blanchett – Duchess Satine Kreese
08:08It feels like one of the aforementioned Mauls' many victims over the years also could finally
08:12be on the verge of being given the live-action treatment. Or at least, that's what one of the
08:16Mandalorian, The Clone Wars and Rebels stars is hoping. Speaking on The Steve Varley Show,
08:21Bo-Katan Kreese actor Katie Sackhoff openly admitted that she wished they could talk about
08:26her character's sister Satine as part of the live-action Star Wars sphere, going as far as
08:31to state that she'd cast Cate Blanchett in the role of the pacifist Duchess who once ruled Mandalore.
08:36Again, it's likely a Satine appearance would come in the form of a flashback cameo in something like
08:40The Mandalorian, with the ruler's emotional death in The Clone Wars having a monumental impact on
08:46Bo-Katan's life in particular. Few would argue with Blanchett being an absolutely perfect shout
08:51to play the benevolent and determined leader, too. She looks the part and could definitely bring some
08:56much-needed class to the role. So if Dave Filoni does ever opt to delve into Bo-Katan's past in
09:01live-action, why not offer Blanchett, who has publicly expressed interest in a Star Wars role,
09:06the chance to join yet another beloved franchise? Sign her up, Dave!
