He is best known for his work with the psychedelic hard rock band Iron Butterfly, with whom he debuted in 1967 at the age of seventeen. In 1967, he joined the band Iron Butterfly at the age of seventeen. His recording debut came the following year with the album In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, which still represents the group's greatest commercial success. In July 2003, while he was planning his return to the music scene with a solo album, Brann died of a heart attack at the age of 52.
